Here’s Stella showing this frock off properly.  Can’t wait to wear it!  The way the temperatures are going, it won’t be too long. Love the polished cotton and the atomic applique’.

Perfect for summer fun.  With a long metal zip up the back and swirling circle skirt, it’s easy-in and just right for a street dance.  Or, a picnic, or strolling with a date, or . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

NEW FIND! FUN SLINKY KNIT MOD 1960’s PATIO DAY DRESS BY ALLEGRO

IMG_3173

Came across this one yesterday and it’s the first I’ve had with this kind of T-back neckline.  Time to dig out the specialty bra.

The things I love best about it are the sunny-fun art print and that wonderful heavy, slinky fabric that was available for a few years.  It’s so delicious on the body and drapes so beautifully.  No, it can’t compare to the gorgeous jersey-knit fabrics from the 1940’s but it is identifiable as part of the family.

So, although it’s kind of a poor cousin, it’s also a very fun find.   This is because its pedigree out-ranks the quality of most all the casual poly clothing that has drowned us in the marketplace since the early 1960’s, with the value and workmanship moving farther down the scale every year.  There’s an embroidered cloth tag from a recognized maker, elegant styling and beautiful material – clues that come to light when you snoop carefully. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

LOTS OF 1960’S MOD – THIS ONE FOUND IN PARIS!

IMG_2849

A standard mod-look vintage plus-size day dress from the early-mid Sixties, but, this one is rare to find today because the fabric is Arnel Triacetate – not many of them around now!  It got pushed out of the marketplace by good old polyester, which had some easier-care qualities.

However, triacetate feels really good and not exactly like any of the many polyester incarnations that are possible.  That’s the beauty of true vintage fabrics – the qualities of most have not/cannot be duplicated by more modern materials.  There’s just nothing like them . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Love this one!  It’s an easy-wear knit in one of the fun styles that were so popular in the mid-1960’s.  Beatlemania and all of that!

EMMA DOMB 1950’S PARTY FROCK AND JACKET

EMMA DOMB 1950'S PARTY FROCK AND JACKET

Always right any time of year – an exquisite little number from a famous designer of the time.  Wasp-waisted and embellished with rhinestones and netting.

Love halter necklines – this rayon dress is so lovely.  The pinkish net in the decolletage keeps things relatively modest, but it’s certainly not a conservative choice!

I treated myself to this one when I won a raffle!  It was still, as always, a bargain . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

SHEER AND VERY LADYLIKE FROCK FROM THE 1960’S?

SHEER AND VERY LADYLIKE FROCK FROM THE 1960'S?

Dark blue with a bit of smoke in it.  The front placket, cuffs and decorative bow are a dusty mauve satin.  Very elegant and mysterious – she still had the tag on, but no clue where she’s from or where she’s been . . . . . . . .. . . . . ..

This is a really pretty dress.  Suitable for any dressy occasion – dinner, dance, party,wedding.  Probably from a specialty area in some higher-end department store. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

from sometime in the mid-century.  I’ve never seen anything quite like this one and can’t precisely place it, either. Oh, well – no worries. Would you?

LET’S BE ELEGANT – LUNCH AT SARDI’S ANYONE?

LET'S BE ELEGANT - LUNCH AT SARDI'S ANYONE?

True vintage from the 1950’s, this one was not made for a lunch date at the local diner.  We’re in to Spring-weight fabric here, but black and white is always season-less (or is it dark navy? It’s close . . . .)

Just look at the beautiful drape on the bodice, and the sweet cap sleeves.  The jacket, again, has 3/4 sleeves to show off the elegant gloves and fine bracelet or watch.

Another of those outstanding ensembles which can take you almost anywhere . .. . . . . .

VA-VA-VOOM! HERE’S THE MID-CENTURY LILLI DIAMOND FIND – AS ONLY STELLA CAN WEAR IT . . . . . . .

IMG_2755

This is a real pure silk, fully-lined knock-your-socks-off wiggle dress.  I’ve been encountering a lot of those lately.  Naturally, the fit is a bit snug behind.

In addition, it’s beautifully-tailored, with all the elegant and sophisticated touches that would be expected in a higher-end well-made garment.  However, I don’t think that this was clothing only for the elite.  Many of our mothers and grandmothers might have had one like it hanging at the back of their closets.

So, it’s just been one delight after another, as usual.  I’m still not done showing things that were found during the past few months when my models were nowhere in sight so, stay tuned . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

ELEGANT TAILORED FORMAL FROM THE EARLY 1960’S

Here’s that gorgeous presto-change-o formal that I found a few months ago, showing properly on Stella.  Demure and elegant with elbow-length sleeves, thanks to the removable camisole – sleeveless, svelte and sexy without it.

As I said when I first showed in on a hanger, I’ve never seen a style like this one before. True vintage couture styling is often so clever and beautifully-made while being very versatile.  Two dresses in one, without going anywhere near the bargain basement!

Such magic can be created with a simple needle, thread and a bolt of fabric.  You just never know . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . …

MOD FLOWER-POWER 1960’S 2-PC. DRESS – “NEW” TO ME TODAY!

IMG_2737

Too cute to pass up – I couldn’t believe a knit dress from the  mid – Sixties in such perfect condition.  it’s a real blast from the past.  Pictured here on size 4 Giselle, it’s a vintage size 8 with no room to spare!

Cut for the more conservative set – no mini-skirt here.  But, that’s how fashion always goes – everybody has to follow the trends one way or another.  Such a thrill to find a style that’s been made over so many times in the last decade in it’s original form – back when it was really hot on the streets everywhere.  I can almost see the fashionable housewife who wore it . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
