Beautiful Mauve Kashmiracle 1970s True Vintage Coat

IMG_0117

This beauty that I just found would look great on any Grace Kelly wannabe.  It is very flattering on, and it has a swing-style back.  The Kashmiracle faux cashmere fabric is made of polyester, so doesn’t need quite the storage care of a wool coat, though insects can attack other fabrics, too, and (as can be seen here) crowded storage can cause wrinkles.  Love the dyed-to-match sculpted buttons.  It is a beautiful mauve color (and I found a few days later a gorgeous silk scarf  in the same tones to wear with it!)   Goes to show that you just never know . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE SPRING COAT FROM THE 1950s, IN SAPPHIRE BLUE

TRUE VINTAGE SPRING COAT FROM THE 1950s, IN SAPPHIRE BLUE

So, you’re all dressed for the event, party or dinner and must have some kind of outerwear because it’s still pretty chilly.  How about this Spring coat in the most lovely blue that echos the color of your dress and shoes!  It doesn’t have a front closure, but you can hold it together as you step out of the taxi.

I would say that it is made of a rayon blend.  Very nicely made and styled – love the color and the striped rayon/acetate lining. It is a virtual match for the dress and shoes and would create a stunning ensemble. Check out the last two posts for the dress and shoes.

Although my guess is that it was made a few years earlier than the dress and shoes, it’s not far off. Maybe closer than I think. It was just WAY too nice to pass up when I discovered it. Simple and elegant style, very chic and probably always will be. You just never know . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .when magic will happen . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A COAT OF A BEAUTIFUL COLOR

Isn’t this the most perfect color for the holiday season?

Morgana Martin, the magicvintagespy's avatarMagicvintagespy

This true vintage coat doesn’t get the showing it deserves in this photo.  Imagine it on a larger figure and glowing in deep ruby red.  It has just one small, hidden button closing it in front.  This allows for movement on the body and an elegance different from a coat with buttoned front but is still very warm.

100% Virgin Wool, a beautiful lining and deep slash pockets are common quality elements in these vintage garments.Image  It is definitely a “statement” coat and will last for years.

A TRUE VINTAGE MID-CENTURY CAPE AND GORGEOUS COAT FOR A CHILLY DAY

HOW ABOUT THESE WHERE THE TEMPS ARE STILL FRIGID?

ANOTHER TRUE VINTAGE MID-CENTURY CAPE AND GORGEOUS COAT FOR A CHILLY DAY

The temperatures are hovering Spring-like in some places, but I know that these wonderful garments can still be worn in many cities. One reason I still like cold weather is for the opportunity to wear lovely wool clothing.

The coat has a fabulous collar and stand-out sparkley rhinestone buttons, in my favorite red. I like to wear it in the evening.  They would both be from the 1950’s – early 1960’s.

The lovely woven cape came from San Francisco and was, undoubtedly, tailor-made with a silk lining bordered by about 6 inches of hand-done embroidery. It has arm slits for convenience, so I can easily substitute it for a coat or throw it quickly over anything else I might be wearing.

MY ELEGANT 1950’S WOMEN’S WINTER COATS WITH FUR COLLARS

If you can find one this nice, grab it!

MY ELEGANT 1950'S WOMEN'S WINTER COATS WITH FUR

Every well-dressed woman in the 1950’s needed at least one tailored wool coat of good quality. Each of these could take her anywhere – from a dress-up occasion to mundane shopping errands.

It could even be thrown over a house-dress! If she were just making quick stops, no one would have to know and her smart good looks would make a very good impression.

These are all beautifully made. The collars and the lines flatter in different ways. Basic neutrals like this are the most versatile, while also holding the top spot when it comes to enduring elegance.  Always one of the best wardrobe investments we could make . . . .

MY BEAUTIFUL, SEXY, FRENCH – INSPIRED MID – CENTURY WINTER COAT WITH FUR

Gorgeous for tonight . . . . . .

MY BEAUTIFUL, SEXY, FRENCH - INSPIRED MID - CENTURY WINTER COAT WITH FUR

This is one of my very favorite coats because I LOVE the nipped waist and big, feminine collar. Really shows off the face and enhances your figure.

The mid-blue is nice, too. Not as many coats were made in this color as in the neutrals: black, brown, navy and grey. They’re all gorgeous, but this one is special. Remember, ONLY true vintage or faux fur are humane. Buying modern fur supports the cruel market.

Rarely have I seen a style like this – it is an unusual find. But, those are always the most intriguing . . . .. .. . . . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE LATE 1960’S – EARLY 1970’S SPRING ALL – WEATHER COAT

IMG_1197Here’s Stella kitted out in a rather mod mini version of the “mid-century synthetic knit coat”.  It seems like these were very popular between about 1965 and 1975, for common everyday wear – especially Spring and Fall.  This was definitely not haute couture, but has an excellent cut and tailoring, with good quality fabric.

On the purely fashion side, very cute and has a little bit of military influence which was common then, too (metal buttons, epaulettes, decorative pockets).  Looks like the stuff that was coming out of British fashion.

During every era when a standard skirt length was recognized, women had to have coats of the proper length, too.  Unless it was a car-coat or jacket, they wouldn’t want the hem of a skirt hanging below and a knee-length coat could look kind of frumpy over a mini skirt.

Fortunately for us, the tyranny of style is pretty much over and we can be unique and stylish in any way we like, whenever we like.  Where the distinction comes in is whether we go with good design and quality (a.k.a. elegance) or with whatever is on sale at the mall this week.

MORE “NEW” TRUE VINTAGE FINDS! TODAY: MID-CENTURY ROBIN’S EGG BLUE LEATHER COAT

IMG_1666 IMG_1667Almost all of the items shown this week come from my friend, Rosalie, the seamstress/tailor and expert handicrafter whom you may remember from previous posts – this time gifted by her daughter, my friend Kay.  As we were wondering exactly what years this fabulous coat came from, a 1958 penny fell out of a pocket and confirmed my best guess.  Thanks!

I’ve come across several coats and jackets from right around 1960 plus or minus that have featured leather in unusual and beautiful hues.  A fabulously-tailored leather garment is always a joy to behold, and to wear.  This one has tab and button detail at both sides of the waist, incorporated with stylish pockets.  No front closures – an interesting feature of a few coats from that time that create an unique look.

Yes, it shows a little wear and damage from storage but is cleaning up nicely. Overall condition demonstrates how well it is made and the care that was given years ago. What a pretty fashion item from the Kennedy era  . . . . . . ..

ANOTHER MEGA-FUN SURPRISE FIND! TRUE VINTAGE 1920’S WINTER COAT

ANOTHER MEGA-FUN SURPRISE FIND! TRUE VINTAGE 1920'S WINTER COAT

In an out-of-the-way place, this beauty was very patiently waiting to be discovered.  So Downton Abbey, if that’s your cup of tea.  But, I think she wanted to be in films.

Well, she is certainly a star in my closet. There’s no one else like her. The dramatic wrap of her collar and the artistic flare of her sleeves (not to mention that figure!) . . . .

I found a real gem, and in almost perfect condition.  Black wool to mid-calf or ankles. Silky lining. What a way to make an entrance . . . . … .. … .

A VERY DISTINCTIVE TRUE VINTAGE 1950’S WINTER COAT

A VERY DISTINCTIVE 1950'S WINTER COAT

I don’t expect to see a beauty like this again, and I’ve only seen it once in a 1950’s coat. Must have been an exclusive design by this particular maker in the U.S.

A very elegant, simple and chic design, with large covered buttons, an oversize collar and this unexpected mink fur trim at the hem. I think it would have drawn many second looks!

To me, that’s one hallmark of elegant yet fashionable and creative design – the classic lines and unparalleled quality with an element of surprise.

What will appear next? You just never know . . . . . . . .
