PRETTY NYLON GOWNS FROM THE 1950’S TO EARLY 1960’S – SOMETHING I ALWAYS LOVE TO FIND

img_3905.jpg

So pretty and feminine, so slinky and comfy.  Mid-century lingerie sleepwear just can’t be beat for quality and style.  Wearing it always makes me feel like I’m in a film noir or an early 1960’s sit-com.

The details on older lingerie are so beautiful and artfully-made, much of it truly by hand even on commercial gowns and robes.  We’re so lucky that these items can still be discovered, with a little persistence and discrimination.  With care, they’ll last you the rest of your life and that’s a long time . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . .

I see that some of the possible scheduling wonky-ness has already started.  Oh, well – it WAS Halloween, and these things can happen . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

especially when we are about to go away from Headquarters, on a new Investigation.  Schedules go out the window and mysterious happenings abound.  Anyway, I beg your indulgence and suggest that you stay tuned.

It’s just about a solid parade of recent FINDS coming your way for the next 5 – 6 weeks, not to mention anything more that shows up between now and then!  In fact, 5 more treasures were discovered yesterday which I will be documenting this morning.

While in the field,  I’ll also keep you posted on any observations and surprising revelations.  Naturally, the modeling team will be on a well-deserved vacation so we’ll have to bear up without their help with photographic displays.

As always, it’s an exciting time and – you just never know . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

MADE IN JAPAN – LOOK AT THIS FAB COTTON KIMONO!

IMG_3895

Although the phrase “made in Japan” used to connote (in Western countries) some cheap trinket back in the WWI, WWII and Post-war days before their technological revolution, Japan is also the country that is known for gorgeous kimonos and traditional garments of the most elaborate embroidered silk.

Another unusual and  surprising find.  I’m not sure exactly how to date this 100% cotton robe, but it’s beautiful and well-styled in it’s elegant simplicity.  The fan motifs are very wonderful and I love the colors (as does Stella – with that auburn hair it’s dynamite on her!).

Definitely a keeper.  More to come . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

JUST FOUND! 1960’S LUXE NEIMAN MARCUS HOSTESS GOWN

IMG_3893

Embroidered all over with gold metallic thread, this designer dress from the famous high-end retailer is a fabulous find!  Couldn’t believe it.  Luxurious at-home wear that can easily  go out and about – there are no “rules” these days saying that would be “not done”.

I love true vintage hostess and patio dresses, as well as other at-home wear from eras past.  Often the better-quality items are in fantastic condition because they were worn sparingly and/or cared for so well by their original owners.

Just another marvelous day in Mid-Centuryland for the Magicvintagespy . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

TODAY IT’S A TRUE VINTAGE 1940’S – EARLY 1950’S NYLON LADIES’ ROBE

TODAY IT'S A TRUE VINTAGE 1940'S - EARLY 1950'S NYLON LADIES' ROBE

I’ve had lots of fun finding “new” things! I love the fit and drape of this robe. It fits the neckline so nicely and the hem swirls a bit in back.

As soon as I put it on, I could tell that it was an older item by the fit as well as the tailoring details and the fabric. That’s one of the most fun things about discovering, because the clues lead you on to lots of “aha” moments.

And, there’s no more favorite expression than that for a true vintage sleuth . . . . . . .

JUST PICKED UP THIS LITTLE TRUE VINTAGE PEIGNOIR ON MY RECENT TRAVELS . . . . . . . . .

IMG_3465

While it’s nothing special in terms of its pedigree, I love the styling of this pretty robe and always am delighted with rhinestone buttons!  Sheer and lovely – just right for Blanche Dubois – and, on top of being in “perfect” condition, it’s REALLY PERFECT over a black true vintage gown I own which had no matching peignoir!!

So, go figure. . . . . . . . serendipity always happens for

MORE FINDS! GORGEOUS GOWN AND PEIGNOIR SETS

IMG_3269

These are only 20 – 30 years old, so they hardly qualify as vintage clothing, but – they do, and are so pretty and perfect that I couldn’t pass them up.  Although the materials aren’t as nice as in 1950’s sets, it’s the designs here that more faithful to beautiful lingerie from that Post-war time.  And, they fit me . . . . . . . .

So, I’ll glide around the house in them on the odd lazy morning and not fret about spilling a little coffee, scattering a few crumbs or holding the dog on my lap.

More than this came my way today, so stay tuned . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
