TRUE VINTAGE MID-CENTURY MODERN LAMPS – FASHION FOR MY HOME!

IMG_1784IMG_1785This is a little off my usual track, but had to show you.  I’ve been scanning the radar for these for a while and, voila’!  They need a little TLC, but that’s easy.  They are in fabulous condition for their age and, as usual, they were a steal . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S COCKTAIL DRESS – SAKS FIFTH AVENUE

Imagine my delight finding this LBD!! Very Mad Men, Jackie O and all that.  It was originally purchased at Saks Fifth Avenue.  What could be a better item to have as a wardrobe staple?  I’ll have fun with this one.

A black crepe in perfect condition, from the early to mid-1960’s. However, this design is so elegant and classic, that it’s timeless.

Back metal zipper and generous hem allowance, careful tailoring throughout and a high-quality decorative trim at the neck and hem.  The embroidered label inside is a real plus, too.

Most of my recent finds have been good fits for me and require little, if any, attention.  Thank you, fashionistas of the past, who loved and looked after your clothing so well . . . . . . . . ..

HERE’S THE LINGERIE SECRET UNDER THE SECRETARY DRESS

IMG_1738Ho, hum.  Traditional, classic, conservative .  Yes, there’s a time and place for the secretary dress last shown, but then what if you put this underneath?! . . . . . . . . . . . .

I was truly tickled pink to find this!  I have several true vintage slips now with the crystal-pleated flounce at the hem, but not a black one!!  All the colors, plus basic white and beige are wonderful, but black lingerie is ESSENTIAL!

These Forties/Fifties slips are truly beautiful and usually just the right lengths to wear with styles from the same era.  In some cases, they are absolutely necessary in order to make a dress fit and feel the way that it was intended to.

So, when you’re all conservative and straight-laced for the office or whatever, you don’t have to step out of your true vintage mood or give up luxury and quality in order to have a little secret fun . . . . . . . .

A VERY SWEET TRUE VINTAGE NIGHTGOWN & ROBE SET FROM THE 1960’S

IT’S WONDERFUL TO ENJOY BEAUTIFUL SLEEPWEAR AS THE NIGHTS COOL DOWN . . . . . . . .

A VERY SWEET TRUE VINTAGE NIGHTGOWN & ROBE SET FROM THE 1960'S

This is a really nice little nightwear combo. The early ’60’s is just about the last time we’ll find the truly beautiful things. With the exception of some exclusive designer or handmade item, the trims are not nearly as lovely as during the ’50’s and before and the quality of the nylon or silk is noticeably inferior when you get into the mid ’60s and ’70’s.

As I’ve said before, in my opinion you can’t improve much on 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s lingerie/sleepwear when it comes to overall quality and luxurious beauty. The fabrics from that time and the craftsmanship of the trimming detail is the best!

This is not a va-va-va-voom ensemble, but it is lovely and, if you wish it to be, very sexy in its own way. The embroidery trim is done well and the buttons are the nice sturdy and well-formed little pearlized ones that I always love on true vintage nightwear…

ANOTHER TRUE VINTAGE DECORATED SWEATER FROM THE 1940'S

Another classic specialty from the 1930’s to the 1960’s was decorated sweaters.  This one is  a unique favorite. It’s casual/dressy and has applique’ and beads on the front.  Most of this decoration was done by hand and would be fabulously expensive today.

I like the 3/4 sleeves, the little collar and the dusty green color. Looks great with a skirt or pants.  By our standards today, women looked “dressed up” almost no matter what kind of outfit they were wearing.

A FUN SOUVENIR SWEATER FROM LAS VEGAS – 1960’S – 1970’S.

A FUN SOUVENIR SWEATER FROM LAS VEGAS – 1960'S – 1970'S..

A FUN TRUE VINTAGE SOUVENIR SWEATER FROM 1960’S LAS VEGAS

A FUN SOUVENIR SWEATER FROM LAS VEGAS - 1960'S - 1970'S.

Someone was tempted to remember their mid-century trip-of-a-lifetime to Las Vegas with a splashy embroidered sweater, before the time of T-shirts being worn every day and taking over as souvenirs of our vacations. Same idea, different era.  What happened in Vegas didn’t always stay there.

The most fun fashions have usually fallen somewhere along the spectrum of bad taste, and this one is no exception – how could you not love it?!  Like almost all souvenir items, it’s not of exceptional quality – but it still has lasted 50 years in good condition.  You won’t find anything exactly like it now.

Knit of acrylic yarn, for purely casual wear – our adventurous gambler maybe wore it to her weekly card games or just to advertise her trip to an “exotic” destination. Going to Vegas used to be a much bigger deal than it is today.  After all, it was Mafia territory, full of high rollers and shady ladies.  Some things never change  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
