TWO TRUE VINTAGE BLOUSES IN IMPORTANT MATERIALS

Here are two cotton blouses that are made of quintessential vintage fabrics. I haven’t seen others like them made this way in modern clothing (meaning since about 1975 at the latest).

The first blouse is made of cotton seersucker. This has been a trademark summer fabric since the 1920’s, I’d say – probably before. It is known for being cool and having a nice texture that stands up to heat and humidity.

The second blouse, with the Peter Pan collar and 3/4 sleeves that can be rolled up, is a lightweight cotton blend. These were super-popular in the ’50’s and early ’60’s and, as simple as they look, there’s not been a fabric that performs like this since.

Of course, I like the style details, too – the large buttons and banded scoop neck collar on #1 and the dainty collar and 3/4 sleeves on #2. True vintage blouses are…

ANOTHER TRUE VINTAGE WRAP-AROUND DRESS BY SWIRL

Remember the red wrap-around by Swirl that I showed a few days ago? Here’s another of their creations, in the same basic design but with a very different feel.

Embroidered white flowers on china blue. It’s another one that I love and is so wearable.

These casual day dresses are some of the best things to find because they don’t require a “special occasion” to wear them and don’t need a lot of careful handling. My closets are full of dresses like this and I enjoy them daily!

Some of the most valuable things don’t have to be kept in a safe . . . . . . . . . . ..

TRUE VINTAGE COTTON CANDY CONFECTION OF A FROCK - EARLY 1960'S

Time for a new color. This dress is spun sugar pink, with bubblegum, white and (dare I say it – puce). That’s an awful name for a color, but mixed with these others it is very effective.

There’s no tag remaining, so I don’t know for certain that this dress was commercially-made but it certainly looks as though it was. The bodice is lined and the belt would have required some exceptional skill to make at home.

This type of fabric was called “whipped cream”, I think. A type of synthetic, but I can’t say which. It has unusual body that gives it a form of its own. The tie belt and blousey effect create a flattering fit.

Back zipper – simple style, but very much a stand-out. It makes me think of a carnival in the summer . . . . .

This favorite shirtwaist could possibly be from the 1940’s through to the early ’60’s, but my guess is that it’s a 1950’s version of the classic style. The cotton is that heavy, wonderful weave that feels so good on, holds its shape so well and endures forever.

The colors are also some that slide into Fall very nicely, though it’s really a 3 – season dress. No tag, so I can’t say whether it was custom – tailored or not. Who cares!

I especially like the fit. The sleeves are very “pert” on Madge and the bodice fits nicely. The tailoring is exceptional. Just look at that hem width, which you can see the shadow of – won’t find that anymore!

Yes, another fabulous find and forever favorite . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
