Another one-of-a-kind mid-century cocktail frock. De rigeuer black crepe-ish fabric with a full lining. Unusual 3/4 kimono-ish sleeves with maribou trim. Elegant and easy body-skimming style. Made by a company called Dresstown which seems to have straddled the U.S./Canada border about 50 years ago. Not high-end, but distinguished. Again, never will find another like it . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Love this turquoise green tam-o-shanter style for St. Paddy’s Day. No matter what you’re doing or where you’re going, this hat will let you pay tribute to Spring. Some green “hattitude” is definitely called for, and what an unique style! These are from the early 1960’s.
Spring has always been a traditional time for ladies’ hats, in pastel and floral colors, even without the huge amounts of decoration from earlier years. Nothing celebrates the season better!

Celia loves this one – it’s a little demure/dressy accessory that takes its mood from the occasion, the ensemble and the wearer. Perfect for Easter, church or any holiday. LOVE feather hats and veils . . . . . . . . . .
Back in the Fifties or early Sixties, a hat like this was not unusually wild, but it was a statement. Every woman adored hats and looked for just the right ones to accent her dresses, suits and stunning good looks.

A BIG change from yesterday’s styles – we’re leaping ahead to Easter with these statement hats, which had a real heyday in the early-mid Sixties. Each one is completely covered in feathers of one principle color, with accent tones sprinkled in. Marlene and Celia are oh, so chic and smart.
Very flattering, eh? Hats were always popular in the mid-century, but Spring hats had a special place after a long, cold winter and heavy, dark clothing. Feather hats are especially dramatic and these two are no exception to that rule! I may be showing some more later on . .. . . . .

When post-war era women finally have to/decide to move out of their homes, it’s not unusual that they have saved some of their most precious, favorite dresses over the decades. Of course, it then becomes DECISION TIME. Well, lucky me!
I was elected as most suited to look after this pink princess, left over from the early 1950’s. With sequins and netting, it’s got the requisite poufy skirt and strappy top. I may, with permission, enter it in a show this fall but I’ll probably be looking for the best new owner sometime next year. I’ll be sorry to part with her, but she is an honored guest until then . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

No matter when you wear the green hat, it’s going to draw attention. So, why not St. Paddy’s Day? The black and white number with artistic feather trim is also to die for. Chin straps were so practical.
These two are from the 1950’s and/or 1940’s. Marlene and Celia are feeling pretty “haute mode”.
Just love feather hats, and I’ll be showing some more before the Spring fashion parade is through. Notice that we’ve also got a veil. . . . . . . . . . .

Can you imagine?! What a fabulous addition to my collection of feathered hats. What a perfect stunner for the Christmas holidays!!!
Along with the red wool dress from 2 or 3 weeks ago, and a red velveteen that I’ll show a bit later, this hat would make a statement, for sure.
These Sixties feather hats are just so over-the-top. Can almost compete with the hats from the Forties. And this color!!!!! It’s too wonderful not to treat very carefully, but what about part of your costume for a Halloween party . . . . . . . .
I’m just over the moon, as you can see, because of the things I’ve been finding recently.
You’ll have to imagine with me, especially as we get to more of the dresses, how they look off the hanger. Can’t wait to be able to photograph them on Stella or Madge, to show them off properly. Of course, Marlene, Celia and Daphne will look smashing in the hats – and I’ve got 3 more of those coming . . . . . .
