RARE FIND! TRUE VINTAGE 1950’S MEN’S COTTON PAJAMAS – JUST WHAT I’D BEEN DREAMING OF . . . . . .

IMG_1669The most comfy, wonderful 100% cotton sleepwear in near-perfect condition.  I’m in heaven!  It has been years since my last pair was discovered, and I’ve been thinking about finding more . . . . . . . …

And, in a great color for me.  Blue always seems to be the men’s favorite.  Love the classic medallion print and big front buttons.  The waist closes with two buttons in front, and there’s stretchy elastic across the back.

Although it’s a vintage large size, the pants fit fabulously – not too big, not too long.  “Will wonders never cease?”  This pair was made in Canada for Simpson Sears, when the Simpson’s department store company was amalgamated with Sears & Roebuck up north.

Perfect now that evenings are getting cooler.  No matter how hot and humid it may be during the day, I’m finding the urge to snuggle up at night . . . . . . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S CO-ED NOVELTY SWEATER BY CAMPUS CASUALS OF CALIFORNIA

IMG_1670I just love this Sixties Mod sweater now that Fall is on the horizon.  In acrylic with fun fringes all over, bateau neckline and 3/4 sleeves. It’s got an open weave underneath, so it’s not as hot to wear as it looks. Just right for transitional weather.  The colors are, too – sort of a summer-sunshine-fall-leaves combination.

The Campus Casuals label may still be in existence but this item is the real deal from about 50 years ago – the last of my recent group of garments from friend Rosalie’s family.  I can just see Goldie Hawn wearing it on a Laugh-In re-run or in a Mad Men episode.

This was during the time when clothing was becoming more easy-care.  Acrylics rather than wool and machine-washable.  Of course, I’d still wash this by hand or put it into a sweater bag in the machine.

It’s unusual to come across true vintage knitwear in fabulous condition, so whenever you do it’s a treasure.

TRUE VINTAGE FULL CIRCLE SKIRT – A SOUVENIR OF MEXICO CIRCA 1950’S

IMG_1668Hand-painted on 100% cotton in “fast colors”, this skirt will swirl and twirl with a gazillion different blouses and tops, depending on your mood.  It’s typical of the souvenir garments available then, but different from the ones my older relatives had collected in the 1940’s and 1950’s – each one is unique!

I love the typical scene of tropical nature, a small dwelling and workers resting in the shade.  Perfect to wear while sipping a Margarita or Mojito under a palm tree (or on the back patio – Patio Party, anyone?)

Handcrafted pieces are always collectible, gorgeous and make nostalgic mementos of travel back in the day.”South of the border – down Mexico way” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE MID-1960’S SILK SHANTUNG SHEATH – CLASSIC LITTLE BLACK DRESS

IMG_1664Basic, basic, basic – but nothing is more elegant.  Needless to say, I was thrilled to discover it!

Bateau neckline with an easy shape and kick pleat. Long metal zipper in back.  It can be accessorized in so many ways and will look unique on women with slightly different body shapes.  And, the fabric . . . . . . . .

This silk shantung sheath was tailored for tall juniors and Stella barely qualifies at 5’7”, so the fit would be transformed on a taller girl with correct measurements for a true vintage 12/13 size.

Styles like this endure with ease over many decades and become increasingly difficult to find in the same quality as the years go on.  Sometimes a little change in the hemline is called for, but otherwise it’ll stand on its own forever, with delicate care.

TRUE VINTAGE CUSTOM-TAILORED 1930’S/1940’S BEADED, BIAS-CUT GOWN

IMG_1663A sapphire blue gown, with cutout detail at the front and back V-necklines, with seed-bead embellishments.  All hand-done in bias-cut rayon, so the drape is fabulous!

It’s another squeaker to get into, so Stella is in her element.  A side waist opening closes with hooks and eyes.  You can just see the belt that ties in back to cinch the waist even further.

Pleated elbow-length sleeves complete the design and careful piecing makes sure that it follows every curve . . . . . . .
