TRUE VINTAGE SHIRTWAIST DAY DRESS FROM THE 1950'S

This style was everywhere from about 1945 to about 1965, I think. In house dress to day dress styles, the shirtwaist with full skirt was a classic fashion. I remember my mother wearing them.

Some had fabric-covered buckle belts and some, like this one, had tie belts. All kinds of prints or solids were seen.

I love this one, which is a semi-sheer material in a print with a French motif. Not a bit high-end; just the average do-what-the-day-requires outfit for a modern 1950’s housewife.

This one came my way from a relative, which makes it very special . . …

FABULOUS TRUE VINTAGE TANK BATHING SUIT - 1940'S - 1950'S

Like the last suit posted, this one has two layers. The way they used to do the little brief or shorts underneath was such a figure-enhancer for most women.

Almost like a tankini, but all in one piece. Look at those great design details, too. You won’t see that on modern suits, nor the exceptional construction.  Black & white makes another appearance for Spring and Summer, as always.

Just right for sitting beside the pool, under a big sun-hat, with a Mai-Tai . . . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE 1940’S SILK DRESS & 1950’S SHEER BLOUSES WITH PRETTY SKIRTS & LINGERIE SLIPS

Mixing and matching was never more fun . . . . .

IMG_0993IMG_0994Really pretty outfits, now that we’re definitely into Spring and flowers are coming up.  I have combined more modern vintage skirts with sheer true vintage 1950’s blouses.  The pink leather peep-toe slingback pumps are ’80’s or early ’90’s does ’40’s – Nina brand. (’90’s – I have a hard time calling that “vintage” , though some people do) since I love the old classics much more.  The slips are true vintage and the silk dress is authentic 1940’s or 1930’s, too.IMG_0995FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

NEW FINDS! TRUE VINTAGE 1950’S – EARLY 1960’S EVENING GLAM

IMG_1498 IMG_1494These two belong together!  Both the dress and stole are from the same era.  Faux mink by Glenoit and a custom-tailored cocktail dress with illusion neckline.

Bodice treatment of this type is so pretty – I’ve got examples from the 1940”s to early 1960’s.  Although the dress is of modest quality, these kinds of necklines are not easy to make (no, I’ve never tried it – I can tell!)  It’s obvious that the sewer knew what they were doing.

The fur is well-made and subtly dyed, with a brocaded lining.  It has stood up to wear and time extremely well over 50 – 60 years.

. . . . . more examples of hand-tailored elegance that even the budget-minded woman could enjoy back in the day . . . . . . . ..
