A COUPLE OF LATE '50'S - EARLY '60'S FUN SHIRTWAIST DRESSES IN LEAD-INTO-FALL COLORS

I love the colors of these dresses – pink to lavender, with black and white. Both in a similar shirtwaist style,  below-the-knee length and made of a substantial cotton.  Perfect mid-century style.

The dress on the left has little houses in a novelty print and some interesting tuck and piping details.  The fabric is a bit heavier, and I’d wear it into Fall.  The one on the right has cute pockets, ric-rac trim and a great plaid.  It really says “summer” and farmers’ markets, to me.

Neither one has a label, but I doubt that they were made at home – especially not the left-hand one.  Just goes to show, that labels often go by the wayside. . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE SHOES BY JOYCE – 1960’S COLORFUL FLATS

TRUE VINTAGE SHOES BY JOYCE - 1960'S COLORFUL FLATS

I’ve found a number of mid-century true vintage sporty-type items by Joyce.  One label said Joyce of Chicago, so maybe the same company.  Some companies have changed their labels somewhat over the years.

These flats are leather, of course, but only the uppers and interiors.  The soles are a good synthetic like Vibram (will last for decades).  I always love cut-out styles and these carnival colors are so much fun!

Just the ticket to wear with capris, cigarette pants, a cute dress or skirt – or shorts.  ’60’s casual fashions were all about playful and surprising.  The ’50’s certainly have those moments, too, in a BIG way but, overall, there’s more loyalty to the conservative classics in the 1950’s.

With the closed toe and elegant styling, these  “summer” shoes are easily worn Spring through Fall.  My main challenge here  is finding the right clothing  and colors to accompany them.  But…

ANOTHER TRUE VINTAGE FAVORITE SHIRT FROM THE '50'S - MEN'S AGAIN

One of my all-time favorite shirts again – with crazy chest detail! So many of the vintage men’s shirts had wonderful embroidered designs on front.

This one also has some little covered buttons to add to the motif.  Unfortunately, one was missing and is a strange shape to replace, but I’ll keep looking. Until then, I added a touch of embroidery to fill the space.  As on the dress yesterday, the buttons can be a major feature.

The material is also a nice drapey, rayon fabric in a wonderful rare shade of blue. True vintage fabrics take dye differently than modern fabrics and many of the colors are unique.  I absolutely love finding these shirts in small sizes that I can wear!

A SHEER, BLACK TRUE VINTAGE (AS ALWAYS) EARLY 1950’S FROCK WITH RHINESTONE BUTTONS

A SHEER, BLACK TRUE VINTAGE (AS ALWAYS) 1950'S FROCK WITH RHINESTONE BUTTONS

This dress is very special. I’m sorry that I don’t yet have a photo of Stella wearing it, or a personal photographer to take pictures of me wearing it. It is VERY sheer, as you can see, and requires a slip underneath.

The little cap sleeves and dainty collar, plus the belted waist and full skirt make a very flattering and feminine impression. The small buttons down the front, which are purely decorative, have big clear rhinestones at their centers. A fabric-covered buckle belt finishes off the waistline.

This dress closes with a zipper at the left waist. It is a real wiggler to get your shoulders into. If I were any larger, it’d be a no-go! As it is, it works and the skirt swirls around because the fabric is so light, ending right at or slightly below my knees.

You could wear this dress to a party or…

A VERY PRETTY SHIRTWAIST DRESS FROM THE EARLY 1960'S

Here’s a very pretty cotton shirtwaist style – probably from the early ’60’s, but could be 1950’s. I especially like the fabric, colors and the cut of this one. Although I have lots of nice dresses of similar design, I get more compliments when I wear it.

The dress has a label (it was not custom – made) and a really attractive neckline, to me. The type and cut of the collar is especially flattering. It also has an artistic- shaped asymmetrical  belt buckle, rather than a plain rectangular one.

Just goes to show, vintage fashion never gets boring and elegance is never “plain”. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
