BEAUTIFUL DELICATE COLOR TRUE VINTAGE 1950’S – 1960’S SLIPS TO WEAR WITH YOUR PASTELS

BEAUTIFUL PASTEL TRUE VINTAGE 1950'S - 1960'S SLIPS TO WEAR WITH YOUR PASTELS

Here are great nylon slips for Spring into Summer wear. When the weather has us in the doldrums, these will pick up the spirits and coordinate with the lovely pastels we are beginning to wear again.

Gorgeous lace and embroidery – the slip on the left may even be 1940’s. We know we’re getting into the 1960’s with the one far right because of the fabric and construction – not just the length – .some pre-WWII slips were short, too, depending on the style.

It’s fun to know all the details but I love each one . . . . . .

ANOTHER “NEW” TRUE VINTAGE BED JACKET WITH UNUSUAL STYLING

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I know, I know, I know . . . . . I collect so many of these that I’ll have to lounge a whole lot and eat many breakfasts in bed to be able to wear them all . . . . . . . . . . . . .. BUT

How can I resist?  Who wouldn’t love a gorgeous little scrap of mid-century feminine luxury like this one?  Although they are always pretty, I’m especially excited when I find one that is unusual.  I’m not sure that I have another one in this green color or with this type of styling.  Generally, they were made in pink, blue or sometimes in white.

The lace is especially nice, too.  Even when I get to a point where I’ll have to part with some of them, this one is a keeper . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I’VE GOT THE DOWNRIGHT GORGEOUS BLUES: TRUE VINTAGE 1950’S – 1960’S LINGERIE NYLON SLIPS

I'VE GOT THE DOWNRIGHT GORGEOUS BLUES - TRUE VINTAGE 1950'S LINGERIE NYLON SLIPS

These slips, on top of the beautiful colors, have some of the nicest lace and embroidery decoration!  They’re very similar in the construction techniques, but each one is unique.

The 1950’s were so big on vivid colored lingerie and, of course, the nylon had a wonderful “hand”. The one on the far left, especially, could almost double as a dress.  In the early 1960’s some variation in length became more available, which will work under shorter styles.

They make dressing such a pleasure and sleuthing always an adventure . . . . . . . . . . ..

CUTE TRUE VINTAGE RED HAT FROM THE 1950’S OR BEFORE . . . . . .

CUTE TRUE VINTAGE RED HAT FROM THE 1950'S OR BEFORE . . . . . .

Here’s Marlene in a great hat – might look good with that bright red ’40’s suit shown a few days ago . . . . . . .. It’s a beanie style with a tassel, all in Valentine red wool.

This is another example of what I call “witty” vintage style – fun, even amusing, details or designs that just make us smile. True vintage is full of that in a much better way than I ever see it done now.

Take a look at the necklace, too. I’ve got another picture of it coming later, but this one might even have better detail resolution.

Time to switch a bit, away from the truly Wintery-looking things. The hat collection is coming, plus some jewelry – though most of that will be later – maybe this summer. Got to get through the LBD’s first, and the shoes, some more Springy things plus the odd this and that which always turns up.  In other words, stay tuned . . . . . . . . .

COTTON SCARF PRINTED AS A COMMEMORATIVE ITEM FOR QUEEN ELIZABETH II’S CORONATION IN 1953

It’s written in the right-hand lower corner.  Love the kitchy illustrations.  Perfect for my 1950’s home!!  Not to mention the closets . . . . . . .

PURE CLASSIC! VINTAGE DAY DRESS IN FLORAL COTTON

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Right on the heels of that daring red frock shown yesterday came this traditional, custom-tailored every-day dress in a beautiful cotton print.  Again, I can’t say exactly how old it is but it was home-sewn in a classic, mid-century style.  The fabric is gorgeous.

Although it’s another perfect fit for me, the style is very plain so I think I’d cinch the waist with a belt to enhance the fit and add a pert little scarf or pearls at the neckline, depending on my mood.  Yes, that would be VERY cliche’ ’50’s but – so what? – also a VERY pretty look. Unless I wanted to go completely kitchy for the fun of it, I’d leave off the hat/gloves -handbag/shoes sets.

Anyway, this dress really makes me hanker for Spring!  Can’t wait to see what turns up next . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A FAVE WASP-WAIST SUIT FROM THE LATE 1940’S

A FAVE WASP-WAIST SUIT FROM THE LATE 1940'S

Here’s a wonderful post-WWII skirt suit that has that superb hour-glass shape that I love. To me, it’s an era that produced some of the most flattering clothing – like the suit from yesterday, also.

In wool, with stripes of charcoal, mid-blue and wine. Padded shoulders. Cheeky little turned-up cuffs. And, a longer skirt which is very versatile on it’s own, too.

Although thoughts of Spring are definitely in mind, we could wear these gorgeous garments for at least another month in this kind of weather and I take advantage of every chance I have!  Let’s see what else I can find . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

AN ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS LADIES’ SKIRT SUIT FROM THE 1940’S

AN ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS LADIES' SKIRT SUIT FROM THE 1940'S

This one belongs in the classic wartime or post-war movies, on Greer Garson, Ingrid Bergman or someone of their poise and stature.  It’s so beautifully cut and made, you can see why it’s a love of mine.

How could you not feel confident and beautiful wearing this?! It’s of wool, but not too heavy.  Even though the temperature is getting a little higher is some places now, suits like this can be comfortable even into the 60’s degree range – no need for a coat!  LOVE the slash pockets – they create such a flattering line.

I’m so inspired, I might just put it on with my Cuban heel oxfords and go to the coffee shop . . . . . . ..

TAILORING DETAILS OF A PRETTY TRUE VINTAGE WOOL JACKET FROM THE 1940’S – 1950’S

TAILORING DETAILS OF A PRETTY TRUE VINTAGE WOOL JACKET FROM THE 1940'S - 1950'S

I’m showing the back view of this jacket because it has the most interesting features. The front is nice, too, but plainer – vintage clothing can be very witty in this way, with little unexpected surprises.

The collar detail at the back of the neck is something I’ve seen several times. The little back “belt” and the bows on the cuffs make it so interesting.

The placement of the details makes this a somewhat unusual jacket – usually the decorations are on the front. Dresses, also, are likely to have really fun details sewn in.  I think this is especially true with garments from the wartime and post-war eras late 1930’s to early 1950’s.

Finding garments like this is always a thrill. You just never know when one will turn up . .. . . . .. . . . .

ONE OF MY VERY FAVORITE 1940’S TO EARLY 1950’S JACKETS

ONE OF MY VERY FAVORITE 1940'S TO EARLY 1950'S JACKETS

From my just-about-favorite era, this is one of the items I have acquired from a vintage clothing shop and I just LOVE it. The shape and all the contrast trim is so smart!  It has a bit of a military vibe, which so many wartime  designs tended to.

As always, it is very well-made and tailored in mid-gray wool with charcoal accents on the collar, buttons and cuffs.

Alas, the original skirt was not with it, but it was not difficult to find a charcoal skirt that matches well, though is shorter than most skirts would have been, except during the war when they were shortened due to rationing of fabric.

This color and style is easy to mix and match with different-style skirts and slacks, especially if you stick with the charcoal color. A go-to jacket forever . . . . . . . . . . .
