STUNNING TRUE VINTAGE 1940’S SHOES AT THE SHOE MUSEUM

STUNNING TRUE VINTAGE 1940'S SHOES AT THE SHOE MUSEUM

Here’s another great collection of sling-backs & pumps.from the shoe museum in Mexico City. Look at the decoration on the vamps and the peep-toes. LOVE peep-toes!

Can you imagine owning beautiful designer styles like this, in 100% leather construction, done by hand?  Heaven!  Used to be, shoes like that were available in most shoe stores.  Now they’re all made of ticky-tacky and they all look just the same.

’40’s shoes are some of my very favorites, and such a pleasure to see so many examples in such beautiful condition.

CLASSIC TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S LADIES’ PUMPS IN LUGGAGE TAN NATURAL LIZARD

CLASSIC 1960'S LADIES' PUMPS IN LUGGAGE TAN NATURAL LIZARD

Talk about elegant – these shoes are timeless standards in 3 ways: style, color and material. This is characteristic of  many true vintage clothing and accessory items – the quality and design are so excellent that they look good with almost everything for almost always.

Classic mid-heel pumps in lizard-skin (vintage, of course) in this rich, mid-brown color will go through every season of the year, with white, black and colors, from casual to dressy.

Compose a wardrobe carefully of elements like this and you’ll appear sophisticated and well-heeled no matter what.  Quality and construction are everything.  Even well-known labels and designer names (especially if they were made since the 1980’s) are secondary and often cheap-looking, no matter how much they cost . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

These are sassy little numbers, aren’t they? Just right for the next cha-cha party. Highball anyone?

RARE FIND! WWII – POST-WAR PEEP-TOE PUMPS WITH CUBAN HEELS

IMG_1788Thrill, thrill, thrill – I love finding these guys!!  Bless your hearts, 1940’s women.  You took such good care of your shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!

With leather soles, so that they can be repaired as-needed forever.  Visible wear of the uppers and insoles is practically non-existent.

These were more-or-less everyday shoes for a town gal who would wear them in the house and on errands.  They could pass nicely for modest dress-up occasions, too.  (Weddings, funerals, a dinner date).

Ever practical and always aware of the deprivations of the Depression and war, war-time and post-war era ladies got in touch with their courage and capability.  It was only after the soothing and reassurance of the Fifties economic boom that they allowed themselves to be slipped back into their “place” as model housewives and mothers who became trapped in their new, modern homes.

The rest is history, which we’ve all contended with since.  But, I am proud to step into this woman’s shoes . . . . . . . . . ..

VINTAGE HANDMADE SOPHISTICATED LEATHER PUMPS WITH APPLIQUE’ DETAIL

IMG_1724These are some of the most beautiful shoes I’ve seen in a while.  I’ll be able to wear them year-round.  That’s a nice thing about this color . . . . . .

High-quality leather with leather design details and insoles, too  The soles are of Vibram and will last forever.

Although they were made in the Nineties, the craftsmanship is like many decades ago, done by hand.  It’s worth it to look up the Aurora company in New York.  If I ever need a custom job done . . . . . . . .

ANOTHER FUN FIND! TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S LADIES SKY BLUE CORFAM HEELS

IMG_1712Aren’t these just amazing?  Brand “new” Mod pumps – just right on a date with the man wearing the shirt in yesterday’s post.

This is one of my favorite shoe colors and, in this case, made of easy-care vinyl.  Of course, I would prefer leather but Corfam is iconic Sixties and has its advantages, too.

Mid-heel pumps are also iconic Sixties and will look great with many different outfits.  Wow – I’m really in rare find heaven recently!  Can’t wait to see what’s around the corner . . . . . . .

A Few 1940s Wardrobe Staples

Here are a few items that I ran across by surprise – from the 1940s (or so).  All perfect finishes for a wartime or post-war costume.  Mary-jane all leather shoes (always a classic), Capezio soft leather dance or casual flats and a couple of simple woven bags from the Depression era or time of wartime rationing – a drawstring and one with a metal zip in the top.  It’s fun to find things in such good condition (and at very good prices). You just never know . . . .

MORE SHOES! HOW DO YOU LIKE THEE LOVELIES FROM THE LATE '50'S - EARLY '60'S?

I just HAD to have these when I found them! It’s interesting how they look so much like the fashion that became really popular in the early 1980’s “New Wave” era. The Fifties did some really fun, dramatic styling when they were coming out of their conservative period – think about fins on cars that were made then.

These pumps escape looking trashy by the fact that they are quality footwear, well-made of leather and not over-the-top in terms of the design. Their elegance makes them wearable with almost any type of outfit. In my opinion, that’s the way to make dramatic looks really effective, rather than just faddish or cheap and easy to forget (along with the person wearing them!)  Vintage-era designers knew this.

A follower asked me yesterday how I date clothing, etc. and it’s not an easy thing to answer in a few words. Mostly, I just…

TRUE VINTAGE “EIGHTIES DOES FORTIES” OXFORDS: WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND

CLASSIC, CLASSIC, CLASSIC LEATHER OXFORDS TO WEAR WITH MY FORTIES FASHIONS . . . .

Morgana Martin, the magicvintagespy's avatarMagicvintagespy

About this time of year, the fashion magazines begin showing the “new” Fall styles and, inevitably, I see clothing and accessories that echo many of the wonderful true vintage items in my closets.  These oxfords are officially “vintage” from the Eighties, even though they’re styled after shoes from forty years before that!

Just goes to show that everything that goes around comes around and that is so true with fashion. Of course, some decades do it better than others and having some superbly made originals can be the ultimate best.  I’m happy with these, because they’re still made of good leather with Vibram soles, and should continue to last as long as the 1940’s originals would do.

My original 1940’s ones are still my favorite, but they’ll come later. I’ve got a ton of shoes to photograph and you’ll be seeing lots over the next few weeks. These are from…
