ELEGANT TRUE VINTAGE GLOVES FROM THE 1950'S & '60'S - AN ACCESSORY WORTH COLLECTING

Ho – hum, gloves . . . . .? Not these. There is nothing more stylish and luxurious than a beautiful pair of kid-skin gloves, while they also protect your hands.

Beautifully-made and elegant in lines, many that I have found have no decoration – many have small subtle designs near the wrist. Some, like the beige pair, have decorated panels of crochet or contrasting leather. The variations are endless. I’ll be showing more of them . . . . .

These gloves are not meant for really cold weather, but they’re great for what we’re into now. If looked after, they’ll last a long time.

Don’t wear these if you have a dirty job ahead, but for something more delicate and when you’d rather not leave fingerprints . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. .

CASUAL CORDUROY JACKET: TRUE VINTAGE 1940’S – EARLY 1950’S

HERE’S ONE THAT’S JUST AS CLASSIC AS BLUE JEANS . . .

Casual Corduroy Jacket True Vintage 1940s - '50sThis is a great true vintage jacket that I love. It is unlined, so I can start wearing it now in the evenings.

Easy zip but stylish, too.  The so-retro pointed collar is great and my hat’s off to the designer who placed those welts on the shoulders.   They’re very flattering to most women and, along with the fitted waistline and slash pockets at the hips, really improve the looks of almost all figures.

That’s what I like best about true vintage fashion – the tailoring is usually so good with surprising designs! Though this is not a high-end item, touches like that make it superb.

The style is so classic in it’s lines that I can pair it with almost any casual clothing and can snazz it up with accessories, too.   Final favorite feature? – It reminds me of old movies. . . . . . . . . . . . …

FUN & MOD TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S WOOL JACKET

I’m really starting to think about seasonal wardrobe changes now!

True Vintage 1960s Lightweight Wool Spring Jacket

This lined jacket, labeled “Young Girl”, is full of nautical style details. Epaulets, double-breasted and the bright navy color make me think of Spring styles, which have often had a nautical theme, but it works equally well in the Fall.  Classic but cute – it really calls for a hat or cap like the ones I’ve seen from the late 1960’s.

The oversize breast pocket is interesting and there are also slash pockets with welts at each hip, which can’t be seen in the photo. Button tabs at the hip allow for a small size adjustment. Buttons at the sleeve cuffs also allow for an adjustment. Since this is a Girls’ size 18, perhaps it was styled to accomodate some growth – a very practical idea and always workable on such a classic style which never goes out of fashion.

I wish that clothing-makers still used that kind of quality…

A Few 1940s Wardrobe Staples

A FEW TRUE VINTAGE 1940’S SHOES AND HANDBAGS FOR FALL

A Few 1940s Wardrobe Staples

Here are a few items that I ran across by surprise – from the 1940s (or so).  All perfect finishes for a wartime or post-war costume.  Mary-jane all leather shoes (always a classic), Capezio soft leather dance or casual flats and a couple of simple woven bags from the Depression era or time of wartime rationing – a drawstring and one with a metal zip in the top.  It’s fun to find things in such good condition (and at very good prices). You just never know . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S CO-ED NOVELTY SWEATER BY CAMPUS CASUALS OF CALIFORNIA

IMG_1670I just love this Sixties Mod sweater now that Fall is on the horizon.  In acrylic with fun fringes all over, bateau neckline and 3/4 sleeves. It’s got an open weave underneath, so it’s not as hot to wear as it looks. Just right for transitional weather.  The colors are, too – sort of a summer-sunshine-fall-leaves combination.

The Campus Casuals label may still be in existence but this item is the real deal from about 50 years ago – the last of my recent group of garments from friend Rosalie’s family.  I can just see Goldie Hawn wearing it on a Laugh-In re-run or in a Mad Men episode.

This was during the time when clothing was becoming more easy-care.  Acrylics rather than wool and machine-washable.  Of course, I’d still wash this by hand or put it into a sweater bag in the machine.

It’s unusual to come across true vintage knitwear in fabulous condition, so whenever you do it’s a treasure.
