ANOTHER FABULOUS DAY FOR SLEUTHING!

file0001209214386 ebook cover #1 (1)In between enjoying the beautiful vistas of our American West, and the museums, and the food –  I’ve had phenomenal fun and good fortune doing some detecting on the side.

Although some of the Eighties, Nineties and Seventies stuff is really great, I’ve been having close encounters with the items I like best – from the 1960’s and before.

Blouses/shirts, long dresses, nightwear and wonderful shoes were all in the treasure chest and I’ll get them on the blog soon.  Also can’t wait to see how they look on Stella and Madge.   Stay tuned  . . . . . . . . .

NEW FINDS! TRUE VINTAGE DRESSY DRESS AND MID-CENTURY EARRINGS IN EMERALD

Both true vintage, but from very different eras. This sophisticated late 1980’s/1990’s Maggie London silk dress is an uptown and toned down version of Eighties does Forties(with modest shoulder pads and 3/4 sleeves) that reflects a flashier side of the city chic style going on at that time, when “black was back”. I love black, but am so happy to report that the monotone of that decade was broken by vivid, jewel colors, too. Silk was also popular then and some very good quality was still being used.

Speaking of vivid and jewels, I also found this beautiful pair of faux emerald costume clip-on earrings from the Fifties that are a perfect complement. Beautiful stones, in excellent condition – I have others that would go with the dress, but these seemed perfect! I’m usually very selective when collecting evidence . . . . . . .

A VERY SWEET TRUE VINTAGE NIGHTGOWN & ROBE SET FROM THE 1960’S

IT’S WONDERFUL TO ENJOY BEAUTIFUL SLEEPWEAR AS THE NIGHTS COOL DOWN . . . . . . . .

A VERY SWEET TRUE VINTAGE NIGHTGOWN & ROBE SET FROM THE 1960'S

This is a really nice little nightwear combo. The early ’60’s is just about the last time we’ll find the truly beautiful things. With the exception of some exclusive designer or handmade item, the trims are not nearly as lovely as during the ’50’s and before and the quality of the nylon or silk is noticeably inferior when you get into the mid ’60s and ’70’s.

As I’ve said before, in my opinion you can’t improve much on 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s lingerie/sleepwear when it comes to overall quality and luxurious beauty. The fabrics from that time and the craftsmanship of the trimming detail is the best!

This is not a va-va-va-voom ensemble, but it is lovely and, if you wish it to be, very sexy in its own way. The embroidery trim is done well and the buttons are the nice sturdy and well-formed little pearlized ones that I always love on true vintage nightwear…

TRUE VINTAGE DECORATED CARDIGAN SWEATER FROM THE 1940’S

WHAT COULD BE MORE PERFECT RIGHT NOW?

ANOTHER TRUE VINTAGE DECORATED SWEATER FROM THE 1940'S

Another classic specialty from the 1930’s to the 1960’s was decorated sweaters.  This one is  a unique favorite. It’s casual/dressy and has applique’ and beads on the front.  Most of this decoration was done by hand and would be fabulously expensive today.

I like the 3/4 sleeves, the little collar and the dusty green color. Looks great with a skirt or pants.  By our standards today, women looked “dressed up” almost no matter what kind of outfit they were wearing.

ELEGANT TRUE VINTAGE GLOVES FROM THE 1950’S & ’60’S – AN ACCESSORY WORTH COLLECTING

NOTHING MORE ELEGANT, EVEN FOR EVERYDAY . . . . . . .

ELEGANT TRUE VINTAGE GLOVES FROM THE 1950'S & '60'S - AN ACCESSORY WORTH COLLECTING

Ho – hum, gloves . . . . .? Not these. There is nothing more stylish and luxurious than a beautiful pair of kid-skin gloves, while they also protect your hands.

Beautifully-made and elegant in lines, many that I have found have no decoration – many have small subtle designs near the wrist. Some, like the beige pair, have decorated panels of crochet or contrasting leather. The variations are endless. I’ll be showing more of them . . . . .

These gloves are not meant for really cold weather, but they’re great for what we’re into now. If looked after, they’ll last a long time.

Don’t wear these if you have a dirty job ahead, but for something more delicate and when you’d rather not leave fingerprints . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. .

CASUAL CORDUROY JACKET: TRUE VINTAGE 1940’S – EARLY 1950’S

HERE’S ONE THAT’S JUST AS CLASSIC AS BLUE JEANS . . .

Morgana Martin, the magicvintagespy's avatarMagicvintagespy

Casual Corduroy Jacket True Vintage 1940s - '50sThis is a great true vintage jacket that I love. It is unlined, so I can start wearing it now in the evenings.

Easy zip but stylish, too.  The so-retro pointed collar is great and my hat’s off to the designer who placed those welts on the shoulders.   They’re very flattering to most women and, along with the fitted waistline and slash pockets at the hips, really improve the looks of almost all figures.

That’s what I like best about true vintage fashion – the tailoring is usually so good with surprising designs! Though this is not a high-end item, touches like that make it superb.

The style is so classic in it’s lines that I can pair it with almost any casual clothing and can snazz it up with accessories, too.   Final favorite feature? – It reminds me of old movies. . . . . . . . . . . . …

TRUE VINTAGE 1950S – ’70S “HAPPY DAYS” UNISEX JACKET

Can’t resist the autumn jackets right about now . . . . . . .

Morgana Martin, the magicvintagespy's avatarMagicvintagespy

Doesn’t this just make you want to pull out the Mickey Mouse ears, saddle shoes, or Keds and toast marshmallows? Or maybe put on the Frye boots, a workshirt and painter pants for a “70s thing – whatever mood you’re in, it’s fun to have garments like this in the closet. ONE GLANCE and I knew that it was not a modern item. That’s the cool thing about true vintage – even people who aren’t expert at picking it out will notice something different or intriguing about what you’re wearing that sets you apart from the crowd.

This one is of a heavy knit that has kept its shape beautifully. Aside from a little fuzz, which can be shaved away, it is in excellent condition. I suspect that it is from the 1960s, all things considered, though the style could span 2 or 3 decades. It’s certainly not a high-end…

FUN & MOD TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S WOOL JACKET

I’m really starting to think about seasonal wardrobe changes now!

True Vintage 1960s Lightweight Wool Spring Jacket

This lined jacket, labeled “Young Girl”, is full of nautical style details. Epaulets, double-breasted and the bright navy color make me think of Spring styles, which have often had a nautical theme, but it works equally well in the Fall.  Classic but cute – it really calls for a hat or cap like the ones I’ve seen from the late 1960’s.

The oversize breast pocket is interesting and there are also slash pockets with welts at each hip, which can’t be seen in the photo. Button tabs at the hip allow for a small size adjustment. Buttons at the sleeve cuffs also allow for an adjustment. Since this is a Girls’ size 18, perhaps it was styled to accomodate some growth – a very practical idea and always workable on such a classic style which never goes out of fashion.

I wish that clothing-makers still used that kind of quality…
