TRUE VINTAGE 1970’S SUNDRESS WITH APPLIQUE – OFF TO THE COUNTRY CLUB

TRUE VINTAGE 1970'S SUNDRESS W/APPLIQUE - OFF TO THE COUNTRY CLUB

Similar to the wrap-around skirt I showed a few weeks ago, this one has the applique’d design that was so popular in the mid-’70’s. Very preppy.

The style is casual, but it’s very well-made, by a smaller maker whose name I don’t recognize. Usually garments like this were in the “smarter” sportswear category and cost a bit more. There’s not a lot to say about clothing like this, but if you know it and see it – it’s 1970’s all over. Several companies that we all know of make this type of clothing now. Ho hum . . .. . but it can be nice to have an item or two like this for certain events, such as spectating at a golf tournament. And, it has the definite advantage of good quality.

Back to more interesting cases tomorrow . . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE 1940’S VAMP VIXEN METALLIC DRESS

TRUE VINTAGE 1940'S VAMP VIXEN METALLIC DRESS.

TRUE VINTAGE 1940’S VAMP VIXEN METALLIC WIGGLE DRESS

This is a PERFECT New Year’s Eve dress!

I’m so sorry that Madge can’t model this one. It is a KILLER dress! Imagine Scarlett Johannson, Sharon Stone, Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawford, Joan Collins, Carole Lombard and Ingrid Bergman rolled into one.  When I have time, I’ll try it on Stella.

Use your imagination. It is not tight, but fits the body – with padded shoulders and a mid-calf length. The color is gold and champagne, metallic thread – probably rayon or a rayon blend.  It’s another one of those with the funny zipper in the middle of the back, that you have to shimmy into.

I don’t know whether the woman wearing this dress is a bad girl or not. She certainly has a toe in both rooms. Anyway, it’s just stunning. Perfect for any magicvintagespy . . . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S -1970’S CASUAL DRESS FOR SUMMER

TRUE VINTAGE FLOWER POWER MID-1960’S DRESS

TRUE VINTAGE FLOWER POWER MID-1960'S DRESS

Someone custom-tailored this dress in about 1965. I put the tie belt around it just for effect, but it is an A-line style, which can be worn belt-less, too.

Although it doesn’t show well in this photo, the neckline is a wide, high scoop with a collar. The material is unusual in that it is fairly heavy and is almost embroidered with the floral pattern – not printed. The style and flower design, plus the back metal zipper, are the clues to its age. Although many copycat styles and designs are on the market now, this one just looks different and you have to have a trained eye and know the details to spot it.

It’s always fun to suddenly see a dress like this, because it immediately transports me to the ’60’s and all the mod and English influence that was popular then. That’s what everybody wore, who was not into high fashion. You can see that on any TV show from that time, and in old media photos. Yes, I’m into time-travel and theatrics – such fun!

It’s a medium to large size, and I probably won’t have it altered for myself, but just couldn’t resist. It’s too iconic and authentic. Despite all the miracle fabrics available now, you really can’t improve on the real thing . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE 1950’S – BEST CHRISTMAS HOUSE-PARTY FROCK

IMG_0101
This dress from the 1950s, made by Lanz, is perfect for a Christmas party!   I can just imagine serving eggnog in front of the fire to family and friends.  I wore it to a party a couple of years ago (with pearls, of course).

It is a substantial brushed fabric in bright red with a stiff underskirt that makes it poufy when worn. 3/4 sleeves, a scoop neckline, little flowers embroidered in black and a belted wasp waist complete the design.

From what I’ve seen of the Lanz garments, they seem to have been a “preppy” style. Of course, many of the styles made in the ’50’s look preppy! Warm, too. Wish I had a sleigh ride to go on. Very festive!
