SAVED MY FAVORITE FOR “THE DAY” – SWEET 1950’S TRUE VINTAGE PARTY FROCK

Have fun!

This one is my very favorite – in a silvery plum. I think Peggy Lee would have loved performing in this.

Your regular boyfriend can escort you around in this one, but he’d better be prepared for the competition . .. . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE LATE 50’S, EARLY ’60’S CUSTOM-MADE SILK PARTY DRESS

Yes, I keep pulling out my red dresses for St. Valentine’s, but hey – who cares if it’s “traditional” – they’re FABULOUS!

Morgana Martin, the magicvintagespy's avatarMagicvintagespy

TRUE VINTAGE LATE 50'S, EARLY '60'S CUSTOM-MADE SILK PARTY DRESS

This luscious dress is another that Madge can’t wear, because of the side zipper at the waist.  Soon, I want to put it (and several others like it) on Stella!  A hanger doesn’t do it justice, but imagine it as it fits – with a fitted waist and very full skirt.

Of 100% silk, with gold accents all over. I believe that it is Asian silk and was probably custom-tailored there for someone from the “West” who was vacationing or living there for a time.

It’s a beautiful dress and I gasped when I discovered it – it also fits me! What a perfect frock for a Valentine’s party or a really special date.

GORGEOUS AND LUXURIOUS 1930’S – 1940’S SLEEPWEAR FOR ST. VALENTINE’S NIGHT

SWEET DREAMS, SWEETHEARTS . . . . .

GORGEOUS AND LUXURIOUS 1930'S - 1940'S SLEEPWEAR FOR ST. VALENTINE'S NIGHT

There’s nothing like a silk or fine nylon gown against the skin. These also have beautiful lace on the bodices.

If you dream of being in the movies, here’s your wardrobe. These are real special prizes of mine.

Forget all the lace and frills on anything modern; one of these gowns will give you complete amnesia.

Have a lovely day, and night . .. . . . . . . . . . . ..

BUT, RED AND PINK ARE JUST NOT MY COLORS! ST. VALENTINE’S DAY 1950’s COCKTAIL DRESS IN MOCHA

Nice to break out of the mold. This one is a favorite of mine, ANY time of year!

Morgana Martin, the magicvintagespy's avatarMagicvintagespy

BUT, RED AND PINK ARE JUST NOT MY COLORS!

Yes, of course there are some people who can’t or won’t wear red or pink. What to do for this hearts & flowers holiday?

Well, beiges are always a smart alternative when you don’t want to go the black route (though I will be showing some of those again soon, too). This one is a beautiful, glowing mocha that flatters like crazy!

The fabric is unusual – some kind of rayon or blend with a nice drape and gorgeous sheen. Wide scoop necks and nipped waists are favorites.

Although not a set, I might combine this little lace-overlay jacket with it for some venues. A simple cashmere cardigan, beautiful shawl or a true vintage fur would all work nicely.

Of course, in the frigid, below zero night temperatures common in many places right now, a more substantial topper will be necessary. No worries, Agent Cupid, I’ve got you covered …

VERY INTENSE ST. VALENTINE’S DAY SCARLET SHEATH FROM THE 1950’S++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Can’t wait to put this on Stella some day, now that I’ve got a model who can wear it!

Morgana Martin, the magicvintagespy's avatarMagicvintagespy

VERY INTENSE ST. VALENTINE'S DAY SCARLET SHEATH FROM THE 1950'S

Now we’re getting REALLY serious – this velveteen sheath with a cowl neckline and fabulous shoulder tails is the ultimate chic. Dark red with a rayon lining – it’s one of a kind.

Imagine an entrance in THIS! Aside from the color, it’s not in-your-face, but would initiate and hold stares of wonder and disbelief.

You must be prepared to wear a dress like this, and it’s not for anyone without PRESENCE. Your date had better have some, too. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

PUT SOME ATTITUDE INTO YOUR SHOPPING TRIP & SALUTE ST. VALENTINE WITH RED!

HATS ARE PRACTICAL AND A GREAT TRUE VINTAGE ACCESSORY ANY TIME!

PUT SOME ATTITUDE INTO YOUR SHOPPING TRIP & SALUTE ST. VALENTINE WITH RED!

OK, it’s time to hit the streets if you don’t already have the perfect little number hanging in your closet. Even if you do, there’s always room for more, right?

So jeans, or leggings or something else comfy is the outfit for the day if you want to do some serious shopping. But, one of these (especially the red one!) will add a little panache and statement to your otherwise rather ordinary attire.

I like to keep easy-to-wear true vintage styles in standard neutrals handy for just such an occasion. Trims are generally very simple, but a cut above any mass-marketed hats sold today. The same basic designs are available now, but you’ll always find the maker’s stamp, perhaps a vintage vendor’s label and high-quality felt in a true vintage choice. They last and hold their shape better.

Even if you’re shopping on the “net”, why not dress appropriately so…

DARK CHOCOLATE WITH A CHERRY ON TOP? EVERY GIRL LOVES CANDIES FOR VALENTINE'S DAY!

Moving into the mood for a special date on St. Valentine’s Day, how about a little silk jacket in sweet cherry red from the 1950’s over your LBD? I love this one in a red and black print.

Pictured here with a modern skirt, you could also top a dress or slacks with this one. The nice short length is very versatile. Leave it open over a pretty, simple shell or blouse or wear it closed.

Just a little smolder while you sip a red in some small cafe’ . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A TRUE VINTAGE 1940’S LADIES’ WINTER SUIT WITH GORGEOUS TAILORING

IN A SIMILAR HUE, BUT THIS TIME FULL-ON WINTRY WOOL

Morgana Martin, the magicvintagespy's avatarMagicvintagespy

A TRUE VINTAGE 1940'S LADIES' WINTER SUIT WITH GORGEOUS TAILORING The forties and early fifties are favorite fashion eras of mine and the suits from that time are delectable!

You can’t beat 1940 – 1960 for lovely tailoring and flattering fit when it comes to women’s suits. This photo is a bit dark, but I hope that you can see the detailing on the jacket. So many garments from that time have these beautiful elements, and I’m sure that this one was an off-the-rack choice.

I’d love to be able to go to a nearby shop or department store and know that I could always find lovely, well-made clothing in a moderate price range, with careful assistance from the staff. Our grandmothers, at least in North America and Europe, usually could.

Of course, in cultures where expert tailor shops abounded, such as in parts of eastern Asia, gorgeous custom-made clothing was the norm and, maybe, still is.

Ah, what luxury.

SPRING SHOULDER SEASON SIXTIES SKIRT SUIT – TRY SAYING THAT TWICE!

WE CAN SOMETIMES GET AWAY FROM THE HEAVY WOOL NOW IN NORTH AMERICA – YEA!

SPRING SHOULDER SEASON SIXTIES SKIRT SUIT - TRY SAYING THAT TWICE!

For Spring or Fall – or any time the temps are in that mid cool-ish range – a lightweight wool knit skirt suit by Butte Knits. I LOVE the olive drab color and the flattering fit.

This is one of a few examples I’ve found of mid-60’s suits like this, or similar. The high-end knits are so comfortable and easy to wear, but ready for just about any setting. It’s also two separates that can easily be paired with other skirts or pants for a different look.

I think my Aussie friends down under would love a garment like it at this time of year . . . . . . . . . . .
