TRUE VINTAGE BOBBIE BROOKS MINI – SHORTS FROM THE 1950’S: “We wear short shorts”

TRUE VINTAGE BOBBIE BROOKS MINI - SHORTS FROM THE 1950'S

Here’s the tell-tale zipper in the back waistline. VERY rare find!  One of my wonderfulest discoveries.

The tailoring is impeccable and they’re in almost perfect condition.

Be careful – modern copy-cats just don’t measure up . . . . . . . … . . . . .

NEW FIND! KENNEDY ERA MIDRIFF BLOUSE BY MISS VOGUE CALIFORNIA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So rare!  A blouse from sixty years back, in exceptional condition.  I just love these mid-century blouses that are basically proper, but show just a little bit of waistline when you bend or reach up.  With a sporty skirt, cigarette pants, capri’s or shorts it’s a classic sexy look for summer.

Hard to see in the photo, but there’s a V cut in the front neckline which is a great little design feature.  Buttons up the back.  Clothing from California makers has always been trend-setting and attractive in a sporty way.   Such a thrill to find it – you just never know . . . . . . . . . . . . .

SOME OF MY FAVORITE TRUE VINTAGE NECKLACES – 1920’S – 1950’S

IMG_0945
Glass beads, rhinestones, crystal, topaz, mother of pearl and silver, Lucite and nickel – these gorgeous pieces span from, I believe, the Twenties to perhaps as late as the early Fifties.  It’s worth taking a close-up look.

Many of the chains are of silver.  Most of the stones are semi-precious.  The lobster claw clasp seen on the second to the left is a replacement for the original.  The silver serpentine chain on the topaz pendant is also modern.

The large pink glass bead necklace was handmade in the ’20’s or ’30’s, with a brass chain. The rhinestones and Lucite are set in nickel or pot metal.

So pretty any time of year . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE SEA BLUE DINNER DANCE DRESS FROM THE LATE ’60S – EARLY ’70S

TRUE VINTAGE SEA BLUE DINNER DANCE DRESS FROM THE LATE '60S - EARLY '70S

This one could have been worn to the Cotillion dinner-dance before the time of Disco. With sheer sleeves and crystal-pleated skirt, it’s a dream of a dress for dancing.  It had no belt when I found it – I think I would put on a skinny tie belt, perhaps with a little sparkle (depending on my jewelry).

Crystal pleats can be really lovely and in this case they have a superb swing, with their trumpet shape. Polyester fabric holds pleats like this really well, so that style was popular when poly was really big.  This dress is very nicely made, by a company that was based in California.

It’s always frustrating to try finding a really good dance dress.  I’ve already shown one and will be posting several more soon because I have a collection!  One thing that was really popular in decades past was social dancing, in a more formal way than we do now. Therefore, there have been mountains of fabulous dresses created to dance in.

I’m always thrilled when I find a super one like this!  Though it’s not meant for funky get-down nights, it would be perfect for most kinds of ballroom dancing (fox trot, swing, tango, waltz, rumba, samba – stuff like that).  Whenever you go to a formal wedding or dance, there’s bound to be some of that – just depends.

Stick with me and I’ll show you all the treasures that I keep uncovering all year. So much fun, because you just never know!

TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S RED FEATHERED HAT

IMG_1720Can you imagine?!  What a fabulous addition to my collection of feathered hats.  What a perfect stunner for the Christmas holidays!!!

Along with the red wool dress from 2 or 3 weeks ago, and a red velveteen that I’ll show a bit later, this hat would make a statement, for sure.

These Sixties feather hats are just so over-the-top.  Can almost compete with the hats from the Forties.  And this color!!!!!  It’s too wonderful not to treat very carefully, but what about part of your costume for a Halloween party . . . . . . . .

I’m just over the moon, as you can see, because of the things I’ve been finding recently.

You’ll have to imagine with me, especially as we get to more of the dresses, how they look off the hanger.  Can’t wait to be able to photograph them on Stella or Madge, to show them off properly.  Of course, Marlene, Celia and Daphne will look smashing in the hats – and I’ve got 3 more of those coming . . . . . .
