HERE’S STELLA WEARING THE MYSTERY DRESS FIND

Love this dress with it’s slinky, sexy fit. It has 1960’s style features i.e. bell sleeves and decorative trimming and a nylon Talon zipper BUT it is placed in the middle of the back with no opening at the top, like some 1940’s dresses. The fabric is also heavy cotton(?) and has an unusual art print. So, several indications of an older garment though it may have been styled the way it is just to enhance the fit.

No matter! Fits me well and looks fabulous on Stella. It’s a keeper, at least for a while . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ..

ANOTHER LATE 1960’S RETRO STYLE – VICTORIAN REVIVAL

Stella does true justice to this great find, which fits her perfectly. So late 1960’s but with an unusual 1940’s – 1950’s zipper, which tells me that it was custom-made.

Not my style, but I love finding such well-preserved dresses from iconic times like the hippie – prairie craze that went on from about 1967 – 1971. Wait till you see the next one . .

HOMEMADE LATE 1960’S PRETTY MOD CARPET SHOULDER BAG

Simplest of simple fold-over style with nothing fancy inside, though it does have a full black lining. I’m going to really enjoy this one – SO of the period (1967 – 1970) and in a plush and colorful fabric.

This purse was a great finale to my sleuthing expedition. I wonder what’s next? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE JACKET FIND: 1970’S OR 1980’S DOES 1940’S

Rare and unusual short-sleeved jacket with many of the best features of the wartime / post-war originals. I have several of the real Forties examples in my collection for comparison. Look at the detail photo for a better view of the covered buttons, sleeve pleats and crepe-style fabric.

Love the fitted cut, all the tailoring detail and smooth lines. Made before quality really hit bottom, it’s an honest and true attempt to simulate the real deal.

These jackets look wonderful over pencil skirts, cigarette or wide-leg pants and skinny sheath dresses. A super find!

1970’s CUSTOM-TAILORED EVENING GOWN

At first glance, this frock looks like something modern but the tailoring details and fabric tell it’s true age. It’s hard to be sure of the true color in this photo, but it is another beautiful velvet, in aubergine with iridescent flocking in a floral design. Again, sorry for the poor focus.

This dress could go from being a swanky hostess outfit at home to a night on the town. Long sleeves are so practical in the evening and the deep slit in front adds the drama that is lacking in this otherwise conservative style.

Very well-made and fits like a dream. I’ll get a lot of use out of it, when the occasion calls . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

HOME-DESIGNED 1960’s MOD-PRINT MATERNITY BLOUSE

So unusual to find a maternity blouse this old, let alone two of them within a couple of weeks! This example is definitely from the 1960’s, per the fabric, but with styling from an even earlier era.

Peter Pan collar, contrasting cuffs, back button closure and a deep inverted pleat in front. Although maternity wear was available commercially long before this garment was made, most early pregnancy-wear seems to have been sewn at home.

It’s fun to see prim and proper pregnant meet psychedelic! More to come – stay tuned . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

MORE MID-CENTURY MODES

Recent finds, again, from the early 1950’s, 1960’s and maybe into the 1970’s. A couple of these garments are directly in the categories of other recent finds – interesting how things tend to come in multiples . . . . . . . . . . .

RARE HOME-SEWN BLOUSE FROM THE 1940’S

Although this top is not haute couture and it needs a simple stain treatment, it’s a great find to me because of it’s age and all the interesting characteristics. It’s times like this when I really miss having access to my models – Madge or Stella would show off the unique features of this rare blouse and the true fit more clearly.

Love the early mid-century collar design and the utility pockets. It’s got pinked seams and other hallmarks of hand-made garments from back in the day. Hard to know how it was originally worn; Either a smock, maternity blouse or shirt cut for a full-figured (though not large) woman. It’s fun to think what the seamstress had in mind.

The fabric is a really nice color combo with an unusual feel to the weave. There are a hodge-podge of vintage buttons for one reason or another and I may see about replacing them with a matched set from the same era.

So rare to discover a blouse from the war-time 1940’s and I’m really thrilled! Wonder what’s next – you just never know . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

FOUND YESTERDAY – A “TRUE BLUE” VINTAGE LITTLE HOME-SEWN SUMMER DRESS

From about 1965 – 1970, this ordinary-looking little frock is an exciting find to me. Why? It’s rare to find a dress from this era in perfect condition and with all the hallmarks of a true vintage piece. And, it’s very cute!

In traffic – sign yellow, which was a very popular color for clothing at that time, it’s an eye-grabber. It’s a slightly – fitted A – line style that is very flattering on the body. Although there are many dresses on the market in recent years that may look identical from a distance, this one stands out on closer examination with authentic construction and styling from back in the day. Always thrills me!

Although some modern companies have tried to mimic these features and fool shoppers into thinking they’re buying a vintage garment, they’re not successful if you know your stuff . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
