LOVE IT! CUTE TAILORED 2 PIECE DRESS FROM THE SIXTIES – SEVENTIES

Lovely late-mid-century tailoring.  Picture this dress on a shorter model – it’s not supposed to be midriff-baring.  I love this nautical flair in dark navy and white, with asymetrical back and side buttons on the top.  Such an unusual design!

It’s cute and sassy while also being elegant.  That’s the best type of vintage design in smart casual wear.  They used to do it so well . . . . . . . . . . . .

I was super-happy to encounter this set.  Unusual pieces always give me a thrill.  So, wait till you see what I discovered next . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

MORE TRUE VINTAGE 1960 FINDS IN NAUTICAL COLORS

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Here are 3 of my finds from yesterday.  Remember the blouse from a few days ago and how I was talking about the traditional popularity of nautical colors for Spring?  Well, here they are again!

The navy and white items were commercially-made and the red polka dot blouse was custom-tailored.  Vintage zipper and buttons are fun.  The fit is always superior.

Fortunately, I can wear them all and, though they need to be cleaned, that’s no big deal.  At the prices I pay in the odd places I find these treasures, any laundering or repair costs are nothing . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

SMART EVERYDAY 1960’S BLOUSE BY RHODA LEE

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Nothing way special about this shirt, but the mid-century cut and fit are very nice.  I picked it up because of that, and the true navy/white stripes – perfect for Spring!  I love separates with a nautical feel for February – April and nothing could be more classic.  That style and color combo shows up decade after decade.

With a pair of sailor pants or a pleated skirt, it’s a very cute look.  Lots of versatility for this elegant style, with nice tailoring.

BEAUTIFUL TRUE VINTAGE CLASSIC NAVY & WHITE CAPE JACKET – 1950’S – ’60’S TRUE VINTAGE

BEAUTIFUL CLASSIC NAVY & WHITE CAPE JACKET - 1950'S - '60'S TRUE VINTAGE

When Spring is springing (or almost) I really like to get into the true navy blue and white and nautical themes that have been classic styles of this season for decades and decades. In this case, the classic double-breasted jacket with a twist – cape styling(!) and a little military feel.

A cute little sailor-style hat would look so great with this (true vintage, of course). Imagine it with skirts, sheath dresses, slacks, jeans, leggings – a true vintage classic can go with all of them, ups the style quotient and lasts for decades because of its high quality.

In this case, there’s wool warmth, too. Much appreciated this year!  I’ve loved my  vintage military pea jacket for winter, but now it’s time for a change.  Perfect outerwear to bridge the seasons from cold to cool in fashionable elegance, with a lighter, brighter feel  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A FAVORITE DARK NAVY BLUE HOUR – GLASS SKIRT SUIT FROM THE 1940’S TO 1950’S

A FAVORITE DARK NAVY BLUE HOUR - GLASS SKIRT SUIT FROM THE 1940'S TO 1950'S

This jacket and skirt suit is from the Post-war, change-of-decade time after WWII. As with a number of my suits, the skirt is not the original, which would have been a longer one, below the knee.  With diligent sleuthing, I’ve been able to match up “new” skirts very well for color and fabric.

The collar detail on this jacket is so distinctive! Seems to be more of an into – Spring style, though it is of wool. I just love that white accent on dark navy blue.

The shape, also, is a favorite – nothing more flattering than that! This is probably my favorite era for skirt suits because of the fit and the pretty details that they usually have.

But, I have lovely jackets and suits dating from the late ’30’s through the ’60’s and you can find flattering and beautiful things from any era. If you have the eye to spy . . . . . . .

LONG-AWAITED FIND!! TRUE VINTAGE MEN’S AUTHENTIC NAVY PEA JACKET!!!!!!!

IMG_1714I’ve been looking for one in my size for a long time and, THERE IT WAS!  A real-deal men’s pea jacket in wonderful almost-black close-woven wool, with those buttons with the anchors on them.  There are not many guys who wear a size 34, so this catch was elusive, but a good investigator never lets the trail get cold.

These jackets are so warm and have such a wonderful fit.  Even a gal with an hourglass shape looks great if the size is right.  Remember that these coats are made for working sailors who need protection from the elements while still looking smart and spiffy.

Just right, in time for Fall and Winter weather.  Layered over a turtleneck sweater, or a cable-knit, or whatever.  I can dress it up and around in lots of ways.   I’m just so delighted . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
