Disco Days again! This silver-sparkly knit dress and jacket are for dancing the night away.

The dress is bare shoulders with rhinestone-studded straps and trim, back zip and a side slit for doing the boogie. The jacket has rhinestone-studded buttons. I have some silver and black platform sandals from the same era that go perfectly!.

This is another of those specialty outfits from a small shop in South Beach Miami, Florida. It has the hallmarks of the late ’70’s – mostly in the fabric and some of the construction details.

Not a high-end garment this time in terms of its quality, but I’ll bet it was expensive because of where it was sold – even back then. Fortunately, all the rhinestones in the buttons and trimming are in place so we can’t fault the value of those items – they didn’t tend to fall apart.

I’m always pleasantly surprised to see how well decorative trimmings and buttons on true vintage fashion hold up over many years. It’s a blessing, because they’re irreplaceable!  However, I have found a couple of stores that specialize in these authentic vintage items where you can look . . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE LATE 60’S – EARLY ’70’S MINI TRENCH RAINCOAT

TRUE VINTAGE LATE 60'S - EARLY '70'S MINI TRENCH RAINCOAT

This little cutie is not by a famous maker, but it’s got nice tailoring and style details. Look at the contrasting facing, the welts at the shoulders and the little false cuffs.

All-weather coats were really popular 40 or 50 years ago. Almost everyone had them for in-between seasons and just in case.

You can’t go wrong with a classic style like a trench-coat or a practically neutral color like light blue. I prefer black myself, or beige for day . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I just love this thing! It’s not way old nor of any specific style, but it’s so cool.

I’m not sure if “hostess gowns” are a thing anymore, but certainly in the 1960’s they were a BIG thing. Maybe it’s because the patio and outdoor entertaining became a big deal in the early 1960’s.

Aside from the fact that your sleeves would always be in the punch bowl, this would be a lovely outfit in which to welcome guests.

Navy blue cotton blend, with little white polka dots and a fabric flower on the bosom. Plus, those witchy Stevie Nicks sleeves. I haven’t seen things like this in a long time .. . . .. . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE 1970'S SUNDRESS W/APPLIQUE - OFF TO THE COUNTRY CLUB

Similar to the wrap-around skirt I showed a few weeks ago, this one has the applique’d design that was so popular in the mid-’70’s. Very preppy.

The style is casual, but it’s very well-made, by a smaller maker whose name I don’t recognize. Usually garments like this were in the “smarter” sportswear category and cost a bit more. There’s not a lot to say about clothing like this, but if you know it and see it – it’s 1970’s all over. Several companies that we all know of make this type of clothing now. Ho hum . . .. . but it can be nice to have an item or two like this for certain events, such as spectating at a golf tournament. And, it has the definite advantage of good quality.

Back to more interesting cases tomorrow . . . . . . . .
