TRUE VINTAGE LESLIE FAY ORIGINAL JACKET FROM THE LATE 1940'S - 1950'S - A FAVORITE!!

I just love this jacket! Look at the details – the red lining, black velveteen collar, bracelet – length sleeves, shoulder pads, big black buttons and – surprise! – the body is a check of white and true navy blue!

It looks so good with a solid true navy or black skirt or slacks, or over a plain dress. Just stylish with good lines, fit and overall quality – like the best!  A perfect 3-season garment.

Sleuthing tip:  Be careful about Leslie Fay garments when searching for true vintage, because the company is still in business (as are some others from that era) and the item you’re looking at might have been made this year!

3 TRUE VINTAGE NATIVE AMERICAN/HAWAIIAN COSTUMES FROM THE 1940'S - 1950'S

I’ll be heading out West again in early September, so it is appropriate to show my great Native American/Hawaiian 2-piece dresses. The two on the right are from Arizona, made by a company called Thunderbird Fashions which made lots of Western-wear dresses, blouses and skirts back in the day.

Like a couple of the other items I’ve shown before, they are of heavy cotton with loads of braid trim, ric-rac and color! The blouses have a side zipper at the waist.

The outfit on the left was made in Hawaii, about the same time. It is interesting that there are so many similarities in the style. No zipper in this blouse, and the contrast is in the fabric panel on the bodice.

Both styles have a flattering fit, with a wasp waist and free hips. I love wearing them on cooler days in the Summer and Fall and sometimes wear…

A FABULOUS TRUE VINTAGE 1940'S RAYON JACKET WITH GREAT BUTTONS

It certainly is a little cooler at night now, and I’d like to show a wonderful top that doubles as a jacket.  It was commercially – made and has a label. The cut is so cool – I always love waist-defining styles and strong shoulders. This time, it’s a good fit for Madge!

Just look at those wrapped buttons!  They appear on the cuffs, as well.  The actual color is a bit less rosy than in the photo and more a burnt orange color, but it’s a very pretty hue.  The fabulous rayon fabric has an almost iridescent glow.

For some reason, I like wearing a hat with this jacket. Some kind of fantastic ’40’s topper would really suit, but I don’t have any of the really wild ones. A fedora or big bowler style tipped back is nice.

Equally fab with slacks or a skirt, I really feel like…

IMG_1610What a strange combination of styles and themes this find is!  Kind of reflects the times right after WWII, when the world was reeling and trying to set a new course.

Here we have stylish 3/4 sleeves, a fussy, ruffled keyhole neckline with a little bow tie and even some traditional tartan plaid  on – – lightening bolts and big “O’s” that look like what?  Gun barrels or smoke rings?  And, the colors of fire, ash and annihilation white.  Whoa!  Somebody was having a big atomic moment when they designed this fabric.  Putting it on a prissy blouse was another weird move.

If you don’t think about all this, it is a fun and striking garment.

Anyway, the world had changed big-time and this is what happens.  Fashions always reflect historical events in one way or another.  It’s intriguing to tease out these clues and solve another mystery . . . . . .
