FABULOUS FINDS FROM THE FORTIES – TRUE VINTAGE DRESSING GOWNS

FABULOUS FINDS FROM THE FORTIES - TRUE VINTAGE DRESSING GOWNS

Wonderful dressing gowns from the 1940’s, or maybe even the 1930’s. These are made of rayon with great classic style.

The peachy pink one allows you to sweep into the room with a grand entrance. It has padded shoulders and a little bit of an elongated hem in back – an actual “train”!  The flowered one is a little more a’la Blanche Dubois. (A Streetcar Named Desire (play by Tennessee Williams, set in New Orleans – watch it; great movie starring Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando; a classic).  Flowered and sweet – very feminine and demure.

Gowns like these are more or less a morning version of the men’s smoking robe. Perfect to wear while enjoying your first cafe’ au lait of the day. . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ..

FABULOUS 1930'S - 1940'S SILK PAJAMAS AND ASIAN - INSPIRED BED JACKET

Absolutely fabulous – true vintage movie star nightwear. I always LOVE finding things like this. It’s true fantasy apparel.

There is nothing more luscious to wear than high quality silk. These aren’t top-of-the-line, but they’re a cut above what’s around these days.

And, just look at those PJ’s – can’t you just see Lana Turner or Greer Garson in those? And, the Asian – style bed jacket is full of mystery and intrigue . . . . . . . . . . .

LAST OF THE 1950'S COTTON SHIRTWAISTS FOR THIS YEAR'S SEASON (FAMOUS LAST WORDS . . . . . . . .)

This favorite shirtwaist could possibly be from the 1940’s through to the early ’60’s, but my guess is that it’s a 1950’s version of the classic style. The cotton is that heavy, wonderful weave that feels so good on, holds its shape so well and endures forever.

The colors are also some that slide into Fall very nicely, though it’s really a 3 – season dress. No tag, so I can’t say whether it was custom – tailored or not. Who cares!

I especially like the fit. The sleeves are very “pert” on Madge and the bodice fits nicely. The tailoring is exceptional. Just look at that hem width, which you can see the shadow of – won’t find that anymore!

Yes, another fabulous find and forever favorite . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A FAVORITE TRUE VINTAGE ALMOST WIGGLE DRESS FROM THE 1950'S

This is another dress from the 1950’s that I wear often, because I really like the fit. It’s not tight enough to qualify as a true “wiggle dress”, I’d say, but it’s very flattering. And, a fit that’s not too tight is much more versatile and, many would say, even sexier. I think so.

It is really a simple day dress, cut well. The big pearlized buttons are such a fun addition to the style. The slightly-wider belt also accents the waist a little more.

These neutral black/white tones can go any time of year . . . . . . . . . .
