ANOTHER “NEW” TRUE VINTAGE FIND – BACK TO THE MID-SIXTIES AGAIN FOR A FORMAL FROCK

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     This time it’s a formal gown – more like a mother-of-the-bride frock than for Prom, but who knows.  Some girls used to like the more conservative styles.

It has the hallmark Sixties neckline, metal zipper and custom-tailored details of a home-sewn garment.  The sheer butterfly sleeves that create an attached cape over the shoulders of the sleeveless gown are very pretty.  See the back view, where the tail ends tie at the waist.

The skirt is in two layers, with the sheer on top and adds to the float-factor when you walk.  Love the color, too.  Aqua is always a favorite of mine.

So, more and more fun!  I’ve got a couple more recent discoveries from the same era that I’ll show in the next few days and who knows what else is just around the corner . . . . . . . . ..

NEW FINDS! TRUE VINTAGE 1950’S – EARLY 1960’S EVENING GLAM

IMG_1498 IMG_1494These two belong together!  Both the dress and stole are from the same era.  Faux mink by Glenoit and a custom-tailored cocktail dress with illusion neckline.

Bodice treatment of this type is so pretty – I’ve got examples from the 1940”s to early 1960’s.  Although the dress is of modest quality, these kinds of necklines are not easy to make (no, I’ve never tried it – I can tell!)  It’s obvious that the sewer knew what they were doing.

The fur is well-made and subtly dyed, with a brocaded lining.  It has stood up to wear and time extremely well over 50 – 60 years.

. . . . . more examples of hand-tailored elegance that even the budget-minded woman could enjoy back in the day . . . . . . . ..

A REALLY PRETTY TRUE VINTAGE EASTER SEMI-FORMAL DRESS FROM THE EARLY 1960’S

IMG_1425 IMG_1427 IMG_1428Although this lace overlay style has been copied a lot in the last few years, it’s never done as well as this!  How unusual to see this deep Wedgwood blue color fully lined in a dusty rosy lilac color.

With a fabric-covered belt and the whole bit – very pretty and feminine.  This one is not equipped with netting and under-skirts, but you could put a crinoline underneath  if desired.

I watched the film The Theory of Everything last night (the story of Stephen Hawking and his wife), which began in the early ’60’s in England.  Lots of dresses like this in those scenes!
