A FAVORITE FALL SWING JACKET FROM THE 1940’S OR EARLY ’50’S

AUTUMN ELEGANCE IN A TRUE VINTAGE SWING-ERA JACKET

A FAVORITE FALL SWING JACKET FROM THE 1940'S OR EARLY '50'S This jacket is another real favorite. I always like anything from the Swing Era and the ’40’s.

Swing style with an open front, loose back and interesting pocket detail. The fit is so elegant.  I also love the decorative buttons on tabs at the waist, which are made as extensions of the pocket flaps. Novel idea.

The material is a heavy rayon (I guess) twill, with a rayon lining. “Tailored by Lydia Fashions New York”.  I could spend all day imagining the glamorous life it led!

Very smart for work or for evening.  Black is always extremely practical . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE LIGHTWEIGHT JACKET FROM THE 1960’S

MID-SIXTIES, MOD, FLOWER POWER SHIRT JACKET. TRUE VINTAGE FOR COOL NIGHTS

TRUE VINTAGE LIGHTWEIGHT JACKET FROM THE 1960'S While it’s still warm, but the nights are getting cooler, I’ll be showing some light jackets. This one is from the ’60’s in a kind of fantasy floral print – not psychedelic, but a little abstract.  Flower Power ruled!  I love the colors in this and the nice, easy but chic fit.

The poly/rayon/whatever fabric that was often used then shouldn’t automatically be thrown in the washer like we tend to do with everything now. The label on this jacket says that it also needs the care of spot-cleaning or dry-cleaning, but I’ve still found it easy-wear. Just a little extra care does the trick.

Don’t panic! There are simple ways to deal with this. I have lots of items that can’t be machine washed, but I hardly EVER have to go to a dry-cleaner (can’t remember the last time). Not dissing them – they are a god-send when you…

TRUE VINTAGE LESLIE FAY ORIGINAL JACKET FROM THE LATE 1940’S – 1950’S – A FAVORITE!!

TRUE VINTAGE 3-SEASON FASHION JACKET FROM THE EARLY FIFTIES

TRUE VINTAGE LESLIE FAY ORIGINAL JACKET FROM THE LATE 1940'S - 1950'S - A FAVORITE!!

I just love this jacket! Look at the details – the red lining, black velveteen collar, bracelet – length sleeves, shoulder pads, big black buttons and – surprise! – the body is a check of white and true navy blue!

It looks so good with a solid true navy or black skirt or slacks, or over a plain dress. Just stylish with good lines, fit and overall quality – like the best!  A perfect 3-season garment.

Sleuthing tip:  Be careful about Leslie Fay garments when searching for true vintage, because the company is still in business (as are some others from that era) and the item you’re looking at might have been made this year!

A FABULOUS TRUE VINTAGE 1940’S RAYON SHIRT – JACKET WITH GREAT BUTTONS

LOOKS LIKE THIS CAME RIGHT OUT OF A 1940’S MOVIE COSTUME DEPARTMENT!

A FABULOUS TRUE VINTAGE 1940'S RAYON JACKET WITH GREAT BUTTONS

It certainly is a little cooler at night now, and I’d like to show a wonderful top that doubles as a jacket.  It was commercially – made and has a label. The cut is so cool – I always love waist-defining styles and strong shoulders. This time, it’s a good fit for Madge!

Just look at those wrapped buttons!  They appear on the cuffs, as well.  The actual color is a bit less rosy than in the photo and more a burnt orange color, but it’s a very pretty hue.  The fabulous rayon fabric has an almost iridescent glow.

For some reason, I like wearing a hat with this jacket. Some kind of fantastic ’40’s topper would really suit, but I don’t have any of the really wild ones. A fedora or big bowler style tipped back is nice.

Equally fab with slacks or a skirt, I really feel like…

A TRUE VINTAGE 3 - PIECE 1960's WOMEN'S SILK SUIT FROM NEW ORLEANSOne of the finds that I picked up during an investigation in New Orleans was this lovely ladies’ suit. Wouldn’t those shoes I showed yesterday be perfect with this?

Oh, so proper in 3 pieces with a knee-length skirt, back-button blouse and high-hip length jacket, it’s just perfect for lunching or for a business appointment. The styling is plain, but elegant and well-cut. Hand-tailored and fully lined, with VERY unusual buttons – kind of like woven ropes – to make it interesting.

This is a basic that is flattering, well-styled and versatile – a staple to have in your wardrobe for decades and with many possibilities. Of course, the pieces can be worn separately and accessories can vary the look.

I always LOVE finding gems like this when I’m out on the prowl. They look back to an era of couture-quality fashion that was available to many people – when even…
