FALL FASHION FOOTWEAR – TRUE VINTAGE, AUDREY HEPBURN-STYLE
The actress Audrey Hepburn, I’ve read, favored cute little low-heeled shoes like these in the 1950’s and 1960’s when she was making many movies in America and Europe. Though this pair are not quite that old, they’re of a style that has been around for decades and were made by a company that used to sell good-quality shoes and purses.
Nothing beats the classics and these are pure – Fall colors, back to school, practical casual fashion and comfort. Fashion items this versatile are a super investment, while looking so unique! My favorite red gingham in another wonderful wardrobe.separate. As I always say, you can’t have too many blouses and shirts. I’ll wear this with so many things.
Soft fabric, little tailoring and style details that are “different”, wonderful fit. Great with jeans, slacks, shorts, skirts, under a jumper, . . . . .
It always gives me tingles to spy a garment with little clues that tell me it’s 40 or 50 or more years old, though most people would never know. When I wear it, they just know that they like it, but they don’t know why. They’re curious and it bothers them – just can’t quite figure it out.
Oh, well. It’s just part of the craft . . . . . . . . . . . another day in the life of –

3 favorite shirts of mine. Many take-offs have been made and are in the marketplace now, but these are better. I always say that, but it’s true!
Shirt #1 is from the late ’70’s. It’s a retro style in a really nice drapey rayon. I love the parrot and the vibrant colors, plus the way it fits. It has little shoulder pads and a flattering cut. The stripes are reminiscent of vintage bowling shirts.
Shirt #2 has lost its label, but because of the styling I’ll guess it’s ’70’s but it might be ’50’s. It’s a
Western-style shirt with pearlized snap closures and yokes front and back. In gingham, of course!
Blouse #3 is by Ship’n’Shore – that old vintage stand-by maker of lovely cotton blouses. This one is printed with stylized scenes from Europe. Because of the design, I’m also sure that it was made in the late ’60s…

A STYLISH COTTON BELTED SHIFT FOR SUMMER. A BIT PREPPY, AND A BIT FUNKY, TOO!
I love wearing this dress and it’s special because it belonged to a family member. Cos Cob was a well-known maker of women’s sportswear back in the day, similar to Bobbie Brooks, but I don’t think that the company was as old.
This dress is cotton in a wonderful print, with a long pointed collar and nice, easy shape. Thank goodness it isn’t culottes, which were popular then. They look convenient, but they’re really not.
A sleeveless shift is great for casual summer wear and always looks smart if you accessorize properly. That’s the key to transforming most ensembles and women used to do that so well. The Europeans, I must say, are better at it than Americans now.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

CLASSIC TRAVEL SOUVENIRS AT THEIR BEST!!!
These shirts are authentic from Hawaii when they were very well-made and always a vacation souvenir. The shirt on the left, especially, is from the 1940’s or ’50’s – made of cotton with a bark cloth print. It’s also got buttons made from, I think, coconut shell.
The shirt on the right is newer – 1950’s to ’70’s. It is also cotton and is from the shop at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. That is (or was) a famous hotel on Waikiki Beach which had their own line of clothing with their label. The buttons are also distinctively theirs.
What’s so great about these shirts? The lovely cottons, the great prints and the “exotic” origin. I don’t have any of the fabulous rayon shirts from the ’40’s that were made there – maybe someday – noting better to wear during a tropical investigation on a hot summer night . . …
