HATS ARE PRACTICAL AND A GREAT TRUE VINTAGE ACCESSORY ANY TIME!
OK, it’s time to hit the streets if you don’t already have the perfect little number hanging in your closet. Even if you do, there’s always room for more, right?
So jeans, or leggings or something else comfy is the outfit for the day if you want to do some serious shopping. But, one of these (especially the red one!) will add a little panache and statement to your otherwise rather ordinary attire.
I like to keep easy-to-wear true vintage styles in standard neutrals handy for just such an occasion. Trims are generally very simple, but a cut above any mass-marketed hats sold today. The same basic designs are available now, but you’ll always find the maker’s stamp, perhaps a vintage vendor’s label and high-quality felt in a true vintage choice. They last and hold their shape better.
Even if you’re shopping on the “net”, why not dress appropriately so…

Here is a collection of several vintage handbags for parties and semi-formal to formal occasions. The significant features of these are pave’ rhinestones on clasps, faux pearls, plush velvet, gold-finished leather, double-sided box construction and a telescoping convertible handle.
Though tons of retro-style purses are made now, a true vintage one will have features that put it above the crowd. Anyone who knows, will realize that you are carrying something special.
These purses are from the fifties and sixties. They are simple, but of quality design and construction. A keen eye can spot the difference in materials and style elements.

Here’s one way to look REGAL, even in a plain dress.
Even if you don’t have a Fifties dress to wear with it, put it under any long dress with a full-enough skirt and it becomes a GOWN. Just perfect to make an entrance at a holiday party. . . .
The full length, high-waist elastic slimming panel and back zipper are all unique. Crinoline netting is sandwiched between two layers of fabric for comfort and a smooth line.
Foundation garments were so important in the past – usually more issues to be considered than even now, like garters and boning. Their design was a real art and a science. There are companies now which make “foundation garments” and hosiery in the old style, if you want them. I ran into one in Australia!

HERE ARE THE MATCHING SHOES . . . . .
A relatively rare find, early ’60s pumps a lot like the ones my mother wore in 1963. I was surprised to see the metallic finish, but these are definitely true vintage. I’m not sure if they are patent leather or not – the soles are man-made but the insoles are part leather. Just enough of the markings are left, as well as the appearance overall, to show that they are at least 50 years old, though in excellent condition!
They are almost a perfect color match for the dress which I just posted, and would look very good with it. They were another surprise find, which completely delighted me.
As always, you just never know . . . . .
