IMG_0993IMG_0994Really pretty outfits, now that we’re definitely into Spring and flowers are coming up.  I have combined more modern vintage skirts with sheer true vintage 1950’s blouses.  The pink leather peep-toe slingback pumps are ’80’s or early ’90’s does ’40’s – Nina brand. (’90’s – I have a hard time calling that “vintage” , though some people do) since I love the old classics much more.  The slips are true vintage and the silk dress is authentic 1940’s or 1930’s, too.IMG_0995FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

A GLIMPSE OF TRUE VINTAGE LINGERIE – OOH!

Here’s something unusual . . .

A GLIMPSE OF TRUE VINTAGE LINGERIE - OOH!

This is a pretty tame full slip, made of cotton batiste for wearing under summer clothing in hot weather. There don’t seem to be many of these around, and usually they are not as nicely embellished as this one.

But, just look at that ruching and lace. It’s lovely, sweet and would be so cool. Now, women might wear THIS as a summer dress! There’s also a deep ruffle at the hem.

The length gives it away as a 1940’s to 1950’s style. Because of the label, I’m going to go with the ’50’s.

Of course, on really hot days it’s nice not to be wearing more than one layer. But, if you’ve got a pretty, sheer dress on in the bright sun, well, it’s up to you but I’ll wear the slip.

Cotton, naturally, is better than nylon (can you imagine!?) when it’s 95 degrees in the shade. I’m…

TRUE VINTAGE FULL-LENGTH CRINOLINE HALF-SLIP FROM THE 1950S

Here’s one way to look REGAL, even in a plain dress.

TRUE VINTAGE FULL-LENGTH CRINOLINE HALF-SLIP FROM THE 1950S Even if you don’t have a Fifties dress to wear with it, put it under any long dress with a full-enough skirt and it becomes a GOWN.  Just perfect to make an entrance at a holiday party. . . .

The full length, high-waist elastic slimming panel and back zipper are all unique. Crinoline netting is sandwiched between two layers of fabric for comfort and a smooth line.

Foundation garments were so important in the past – usually more issues to be considered than even now, like garters and boning.  Their design was a real art and a science.  There are companies now which make “foundation garments” and hosiery in the old style, if you want them.  I ran into one in Australia!

For the dress shown yesterday, a short slip would be a necessity. I’m so happy to have a variety of lengths in these gorgeous 1950’s beauties – it’s such a shame to shorten a lovely piece like these, though some were specially made to allow you to do that without ruining the design.

Tomorrow we’ll start a series with my main shoe collection, dresses you haven’t seen yet, jewelry and this and that, and that and that and . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
