A FABULOUS TRUE VINTAGE 1940’S RAYON SHIRT – JACKET WITH GREAT BUTTONS

A FABULOUS TRUE VINTAGE 1940'S RAYON JACKET WITH GREAT BUTTONS

It certainly is a little cooler at night now, and I’d like to show a wonderful top that doubles as a jacket.  It was commercially – made and has a label. The cut is so cool – I always love waist-defining styles and strong shoulders. This time, it’s a good fit for Madge!

Just look at those wrapped buttons!  They appear on the cuffs, as well.  The actual color is a bit less rosy than in the photo and more a burnt orange color, but it’s a very pretty hue.  The fabulous rayon fabric has an almost iridescent glow.

For some reason, I like wearing a hat with this jacket. Some kind of fantastic ’40’s topper would really suit, but I don’t have any of the really wild ones. A fedora or big bowler style tipped back is nice.

Equally fab with slacks or a skirt, I really feel like Katherine Hepburn or Lauren Bacall when wearing this. A couple of my favorite actresses from one of my favorite eras . . . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE SUIT OR 2 PC. DRESS FROM THE ’40’S – ’50’S

TRUE VINTAGE SUIT OR 2 PC. DRESS FROM THE '40'S - '50'S

What a cute little 3-season outfit with a fantastic hourglass shape. I always love these!

It’s a late ’40’s to early ’50’s style, with little shoulder pads and beautiful tailoring. Although it is unlined and not haute couture, it’s very nicely done and has those wonderful design details that even continue on the back of the jacket.

The ever-popular pencil skirt goes with almost anything. This could be worn as a dress, as separate pieces or as a suit. I see it with a little white blouse or shell underneath, jacket open.

At a time when women were finding their fashion feet again and, actually, going wild with style! Clothing from this era is beautiful and fun to find. Notice that the tags are still on this one – I love surprise discoveries like this. Keep sleuthing because, you just never know . . . . . . . . . . .
ALSO, I’LL BE TRAVELING FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS SO THE POSTS MAY BE A LITTLE BIT WONKY BUT, NO WORRIES, THE INVESTIGATION GOES ON AND I WILL REPORT REGULARLY.

CUTE TRUE VINTAGE 1950’S CASUAL SUIT IN RED!

CUTE TRUE VINTAGE 1950'S/'60's CASUAL SUIT IN RED!

OK. This little cutie is in red cotton CORDUROY and you say – WHAT?! IT’S MAY 13TH!!! Yeah, that’s what I’ve been saying, too. I don’t know about you, but the weather here has been in the low ’60’s Fahrenheit for several days and I hear it’s colder elsewhere. So this photo was sitting on my desktop and I said, Nyah, nyah weather, I’m gonna do it!

I love this little suit. It’s lightweight, unlined, and has the cutest collar. It would be a good one to wear your “secretary blouse” with (you know, the one with the bow tie in the front or the conservative little collar). You could also wear a low V-neck bodysuit with lots of necklaces or a scarf, or maybe just leave it the way it is. If you’re a bigger size than Madge (my model, remember?) it might fit like a two-piece dress.

Anyway, it’s not a high-end item – I think it was a Montgomery Ward brand – just regular career-girl attire in the early to mid-1950’s. (I could also see Miss Moneypenny dressed like this in 1962(?)) Anyway, I love RED and the unusual style so those were my main reasons for picking it up – it made me smile!

Frost this morning, but it’s to be in the high ’80’s tomorrow. Go figure – we’ll be back to more seasonal garb then. Stay tuned. It just goes to show that you just never know . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE (?) 1980’S (?) TIGER PRINT SHIRT JACKET BY ABS

TRUE VINTAGE (?) 1980'S (?) TIGER PRINT SHIRT JACKET BY ABS.

TRUE VINTAGE GREEN & WHITE WOOL & LEATHER VARSITY LETTERMAN’S JACKET FOR ST. PATRICK’S DAY

Here’s a traditional letter jacket in the perfect colors for this weekend’s activities, of almost any sort.    In the past, a letter jacket could almost replace a suit coat (for a student – not his dad).  They seemed to have the status that military uniform jackets sometimes do.

Picture this with a shirt and tie, a V or crew-neck sweater at the Irish pub tonight –

This one has had it’s patches removed and looks like it never had many, it’s in such good shape. Although it’s big for me, how could I not buy it when it turned up?  It would be fun to know its history, which might be possible to put together from the colors and the location where it was found.  Maybe I’ll do that detective work someday.  Mysteries are always fun, and you just never know . . . . . . . . . . ..

TRUE VINTAGE 1950s “KORET OF CALIFORNIA” LIGHTWEIGHT CASUAL JACKET FOR SPRING

1950s "KORET OF CALIFORNIA" LIGHTWEIGHT CASUAL JACKET FOR SPRING.

1950s “KORET OF CALIFORNIA” LIGHTWEIGHT CASUAL JACKET FOR SPRING

True vintage nipped-waist jacket with big shell buttons and a fabulous fit. Love it. This is a hopsacking-type rayon blend material loosely woven. When I saw it I grabbed it up because all the vintage hallmarks were there in the materials, workmanship and the label. Yes, Koret is still manufacturing clothing, but I have not seen a modern label which reads Koret of California. And, of course, it looks like a vintage label.

Even though I found this in recent years, I was still not highly experienced – I wasn’t quite the magicvintagespy yet. After I got it home, I almost gave it away because of issues which I hadn’t thought of and made it less wearable for me. I’m glad that I didn’t give in, because I figured out how to solve them all. A frustrating problem for me when I finally had more time to do vintage-hunting was that I often ended up with some things that didn’t suit after all and I didn’t know what to do.

Now that is not an issue. i can address almost any problem that used to make me think I was at a dead end. When I’m shopping, I’m really good at knowing when to leave something behind that I might have picked up before and regretted. And, so many things that I might have given to a thrift shop, sadly, I can now make a part of my wardrobe after all! I find a lot more than I used to, as well.

It’s been worth every minute. Although sleuthing for vintage has always been a lot of fun for me, now the excitement is through the roof! My intention is to be contagious – I really want to spread the fun!! It’s so energizing to wonder – what will I find today? You just never know . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE LATE 1950’S – 1960s WOMEN’S CLASSIC LEATHER JACKET

TRUE VINTAGE 1960s WOMEN'S CLASSIC LEATHER JACKET.

TRUE VINTAGE 1960s WOMEN’S CLASSIC LEATHER JACKET

TRUE VINTAGE 1960s WOMEN'S CLASSIC LEATHER JACKET

This fine leather jacket is from the early 1960s. It is fully lined with a glossy acetate satin material. The tailoring is impeccable, made of high quality leather that lasts for decades. There is only one thing that is not original and that is the buttons. When I found it, one of its leather-covered buttons was missing, so I substituted vintage plastic buttons. Some other style, perhaps of wood or braided leather might look nice, too. That’s one reason that I keep a collection of vintage buttons at home.

What can I say – this classic style goes almost everywhere, with almost everything, at almost any time of year. I have several styles that I’ve found in my hunting expeditions and I love every one.

Use some leather conditioner once a year and basic good care (you know, hang it up properly and wipe off any spills right away) and it’ll be passed on to your grandchildren, or, whomever . . . . . . . . . . . . .
