GREAT 1970’S SEPARATES FIND!

Wouldn’t normally wear these together, but it was convenient to photograph them that way and the look surprisingly good.  I’d just been dreaming about finding some wide-leg, high waist pants and more blouses . . . . . . . . . .

Love these!  They both fit me really well and I’m already enjoying wearing them.  The pants are Bobbie Brooks (always a reliable vintage find) and the blouse is by Mardi Modes New York.  How cool is that?!  A really neat feather print on the shirt, and nice colors.  I wouldn’t wear the neckline in a frilly bow, but prefer a high-neck tie effect.  The pants are just super-flattering and, with a navy and ivory coloring, are great with my pea jacket find.

So, it keeps going on and on.  What next? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

THREE PRETTY MID-CENTURY HOUSE DRESSES

Two of these were handmade and the third is a simple style from a bargain shop, sometime in the Sixties or Seventies.  I can never get enough of these cute cotton frocks because they are so practical – from housework to a grocery run they’re just right for the job.

It’s fun to put out a vintage vibe while doing the everyday this and that with no worries about special caution for your outfit.  Dresses like this can serve me well and eventually be retired with no tears.

So, although not a hugely exciting find it’s one that always makes me happy and keeps my everyday closet well-stocked.  I’d much rather wear one of these dresses on an average day than a same old same old jeans and Tee . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A VERY DIFFERENT TYPE OF AT-HOME JACKET – EMBROIDERED, FROM THE FAR EAST

This is such a beautiful thing – I wish it weren’t  too big for me.  But oh, well, I love it all the same.  Not way old, because it’s poly satin, but the embroidery is to die for and it’s not completely colorfast so may not be too modern.  I’m not always sure about the construction and fabric qualities of garments made overseas.

Anyway, what a gorgeous item to wear around the house and, also, out.  I have a fantastic  embroidered red silk jacket from China that I often wear with black pants when dressing up is the thing.  Looks ab fab.

Tomorrow I’ll show a very recent discovery of the same genre, but older and more the style of Mata Hari.  Something I’d been searching for for a long time . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

MID-CENTURY BLOUSE FINDS. I’M ALWAYS THRILLED BY THEM!

These are all great,  but I always love peasant blouses and Sixties cotton blouses.  The true ones are becoming more and more rare and are so fun to encounter.  They are always a go-to for me in the summer.

Nothing could have been more iconic in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.  Some of the little-white-blouses had embroidery on them, too, but not big and bold like the peasant variety.  Although popular back to the Forties, these examples come from the Sixties and, maybe, early Seventies.

Yes, another trio to find closet room and happy wearing come next May . . . . . . . . . . . . .

RECENT FIND – MID-CENTURY PJ’S WITH BOTH ORIGINAL PIECES!!!!!!!!!

IMG_3854A lot of you might not get too excited about these, but I just love, love, love true vintage slinky nylon pajamas!  Nothing else feels like them.  They are so comfortable and fun to wear but, alas, usually the pieces are not found together anymore.  BUT, THIS TIME I did!

In a lovely coral pink that I also love, couldn’t be better.  Thanks for sharing my fun!

ANOTHER FUN FIND – 1970’S LEISURE HOSTESS GOWN. AN OLDIE BY LESLIE FAY

Perfect-for-Fall once again.  The older garments made by the Leslie Fay label were  quite nice.  Fortunately, this one caught the wave before quality started to go south in the 1980’s.  Now it’s pretty much gotten beached . . . . . . . . . . . ..

Anyway, this gown is nicely-made, a good-quality knit and in just about my size.  Union-made and in perfect shape.  Though not my usual style, it might be just right for some particular activity – maybe a nursing home visit . . . . . . . . . ..

Uh-oh, I’m being bad today!  Guess I had too much fun yesterday.  No!  There is never too much fun.  Go forth and have it – and have a great Labor Day weekend . . . . . . . . . . . .

FABULOUS FUN FALL FIND TODAY – TRUE VINTAGE 1970’S JUMPSUIT!

Another nod to the 1940’s, 1970’s style.  Cool!  I’ll have so much fun wearing this one, right away!  Lovely knit with covered buttons on the cuffs – although it was a mid-priced item, it’s still been well-made by the fabulous Ladies Garment Workers Union.

Just the right weight for the transitional weather that we’re about to step into and perfect Autumn colors.  I’m looking forward to a Labor Day weekend music & beer party in a few days but, I think I’ll wear one of my mid-century Mexican skirts this time – just because.  These fabulous jumpsuits only have one little drawback . . . . . . . . . . . .  In spite of the similarities with cat burglar leotards, not good for sleuthing in, either . . . . . . . . . . . .

Vintage high-top ladies’ roller skates, complete with pom-poms and original carry-case.  (I can even wear them!)  How cool is this!!

LOVE IT! CUTE TAILORED 2 PIECE DRESS FROM THE SIXTIES – SEVENTIES

Lovely late-mid-century tailoring.  Picture this dress on a shorter model – it’s not supposed to be midriff-baring.  I love this nautical flair in dark navy and white, with asymetrical back and side buttons on the top.  Such an unusual design!

It’s cute and sassy while also being elegant.  That’s the best type of vintage design in smart casual wear.  They used to do it so well . . . . . . . . . . . .

I was super-happy to encounter this set.  Unusual pieces always give me a thrill.  So, wait till you see what I discovered next . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

ANOTHER FUN MID-CENTURY FIND

This maxi dress from the ’60’s to ’70’s is a popular style of that time.  In this case, the Hostess Gown has elements of the Asian Cheongsam style dress that is classic and very flattering.  A Mandarin collar, frog closures, a shadow design of fans and flowers and walking slits in the hem hold true to traditional Asian dress design.

In this case, the dress is handmade and has a vintage Talon zipper.  Although it may have been made in some U.S. woman’s home rather than a Chinese tailor’s, the mid-century handiwork of that time adds to the value of a dress made then.  So, another garment a bit large for me, but worth collecting.  Things tend to get more exciting from here on, so –
