BEAUTIFUL TRUE VINTAGE FIND! A ’60’S TO ’70’S LONG SUMMER GOWN

IMG_4528

This is absolutely the prettiest apricot-color floral print dress!  It’s got an old Talon zipper in back and is in fabulous condition (and my size, if not my best color – maybe a little summer tan will help).

Don’t know whether this was Prom or whatever in it’s first life, but now I’d wear it almost anywhere.  Could even be worn as part of a wedding party.  The cut and skirt treatment are very well done, making this a super-flattering frock.

Let’s see what’s next . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE KENNEDY ERA PLAY-SUIT ROMPER FIND. CUTEST EVER!

IMG_4195Here’s that play-suit discovery I made several months ago, modeled properly.  100% cotton with ric-rac trim and big plastic buttons.  Not only is it the cutest thing in the world but the ingenious design makes it so convenient to wear, unlike most jumpsuits both old and new.

Button straps, elastic waist and snap crotch closures make it easy-on, easy-off.  Although retro versions have been made in recent years, true vintage versions are rare, rare, rare.  It also fits me perfectly, unlike the one I came across several years ago which is a bit big.  So, I couldn’t be happier.  C’mon summer .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

SASSY JUNIORS 1960’S COCKTAIL FROCK FIND – SAME ERA AS YESTERDAY’S, BUT A TOTALLY DIFFERENT VIBE

While I was having a run on ’60’s cocktail LBDs, this one presented herself.  Same chiffon drape detail idea, but very sassy chic instead of tailored and ladylike.  So much fun!

I also love discovering these frocks that were worn once or not at all.  And even the ones that saw many the party are often still in quite beautiful condition, as our grandmothers were not in the habit of trashing their clothing.  You won’t see the next one for a while, though, because she needs a zipper replacement.  A breeze . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

In the meantime, there’s lots more to show you . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A PRETTY 1950’S DAY DRESS FIND

IMG_4043

Love the cap sleeves and superb fit.  The fabric is luscious – medium heavy with glossy stripes.  I wonder what kind of blend it may be?  Those vintage mystery blends created some of the most fabulous materials ever.

SEVENTIES SUNDRESS FIND – PRETTY IN POLKA DOTS

Love polka dots and polished cotton!  Stella’s off to the State Fair.

Although this dress isn’t way old, it is true vintage and the classic and fun styling made it worth picking up and wearing.  It’s very reminiscent of summer dresses from the 1950’s and early 1960’s and is made well.

As we go up and down, back and forth through the decades, stay tuned!

LATE 1960’S 1970’S PRAIRIE STYLE DRESS FIND – THIS ONE CAN HAVE MANY LIVES

dsc00720.jpg

Could be a Prom – party, wedding or casual summer day dress according to your wish!  Love well-made frocks like this one, which has pretty fabric and trim as well as a liner that prevents see-through (excepting for a bit at the midriff and on the sleeves).  Just right!

I’m always super-happy to find a gown or long dress of this genre and era.  And, in perfect condition.  Things just keep getting better . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

MID-CENTURY 1950’S – EARLY 1960’S COTTON PLAY-SUIT ROMPER FIND!

DSC00715

Those of you who have been with me for a while might remember a few years ago when I discovered my first 1950’s romper and was so blown away by the rarity of it.  Well, now that I’ve come across a second one, well – you can imagine. . . . . . . .

Pure cotton, easy-on and off with button shoulders, elastic waistline and (the best thing!) a snap crotch.  Potty breaks are no sweat here!  It’s also, again, in my size.  This one specifies a 1950’s size 12.  That’s me!

So, couldn’t be better.  A nice, classic gingham check that will go with everything and just the cutest fit.  Can’t wait for the Memorial Day parties and 4th of July.  I never know what to expect when I embark on an investigation, so keep my mind open and anticipation high because you just never know . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A REALLY CUTE BLOUSE MYSTERY – VINTAGE OR RETRO?

DSC00675

I just loved the mid-century post-war vibe of this shirt as soon as I saw it.  The cotton fabric is in a print very faithful to that time-frame, and some of the design details are, too.  But, there’s evidence of a label which doesn’t look like it was an old one (?).  All I have to go by is the remnant left when it was cut out.  I’m not often stumped – but it gets trickier . . . . . . . . .

Somewhere along the line this shirt was altered and re-styled, probably to make it smaller.  I love the piping accents that may have been added.  The front probably used to button, but was closed to make a pull-over style.  At the end of the day, I can’t definitely say what the true age of this garment is or be really clear be clear about it’s history.

However, it’s very fun and fits me!  What could be better?  I’ll choose to believe that it’s 55 years old and enjoy.  You just never know . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
