Another way to pay homage to the St. P’s holiday, I love this little suit! The skirt is shorter now than it was when the outfit was sold in the early to mid-1960’s, but the skirt lengths did change just a couple of years later when the mini came out. No one back then would trash an outfit just because of that! Shortening a hem was a really easy thing to do and many women did much more complex alterations on their clothing to keep them for years.
It looks like a jacket and skirt, but the top is almost like a shirt. I guess it could be worn either way – would be really cute with a little white shirt underneath.
Notice the detail at the waistline – those little tabs are things that we don’t see anymore. Just for decoration! The brand is an inexpensive one that one of the catalog stores sold, I think, but even they did nice little tailoring things.
Seersucker has always been such a classic warm-weather fabric; it’s always fun to see it again. Olive green and white is a little different, too . . . . .

Stella’s ready for the party in a retro Prairie/Victorian style from designer Jessica McClintock, made in the 1980’s with dark green crushed velvet (so perfect with Stella’s new holiday haircolor) and a lacey bodice. Fitted styling completes the picture of a feminine design which gives a nod to history.
Gunne Sax early dresses, before the 1990’s, were very interesting and unique. I always pick one up when I find it – becoming more and more rare . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A rockabilly Bye-Bye-Birdie Playboy hot weather classic – the short short baby doll nightie. Just right for after the St. P’s party. I’ve come across a few of these during my investigations, but rarely with the original panties! The green is more or less unusual, too, and goes perfectly with Stella’s new auburn hairdo.
Although “baby doll” nighties started out in the 1940’s when many fashion hemlines skyrocketed because of the shortage of fabrics, the earlier ones did not tend to be as short as they became during the Kennedy era. Many 1950’s babydoll nightgowns were just above the knee – shorter than the skirt and dress hemlines popular then, but hardly short by today’s standards.
As always, though, it has pretty lace and ruffle trim and has held up like crazy over more than 50 years! It’s always new for the Magicvintagespy – I wonder what will be next . . . . .

When I discovered this purse, it was the clasp as well as the fabric that hooked me. I discovered several dark green velvet garments around the same time and you could almost think that that they were made to go together. So, this was a re-purposing & recycling triumph as well as a true vintage score.
Just right with your dressy St. Pat’s party dress. Doesn’t get better than that . .. . . . . . .. well, yes, it does, but that will be another story . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
