TRUE VINTAGE MID - 1960'S WOMEN'S SPRING HATS, COMPLETELY COVERED IN FEATHERS!

We’re leaping ahead to Easter with these. Though they’ll be great any time during the next few months, I see them especially as Spring hats and it’s time to wear them – Each one is completely covered in feathers of one principle color, with accent tones sprinkled in.

Very flattering, eh? Feather hats are always dramatic and these two are no exception to that rule! I’ll be showing some more later on . .. . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE 1960s - '70s FULL LENGTH FLORAL EASTER PARTY GOWN

,Zooming into Spring and Summer now, you may be looking around for outfits to wear this Easter weekend . . … .

A beautiful gown in a pastel floral print, perfect for a Spring dance, dinner, theater event, etc. – anything that this week’s celebrations or events might throw at you.

This one has an empire waistline seam, a sheer layer of fabric over an opaque lining and a center back zipper. No slip necessary, though I do have a true vintage long crinoline underneath in this picture. I’ll show that to you later as it is very interesting, itself.

I’m not sure whether this dress was made in the ’60s or ’70s. I lean toward the ’60s, but it is a classic style with only one tag left inside that is not a definite answer to the question. But, the fabric just has a ’60s feel to it …

TRUE VINTAGE LATE-1950’S/EARLY 1960’S ONE-PIECE CATALINA BATHING SUIT

IMG_1472Here’s slender size 2 Stella in a vintage size 12 suit (and there’s only a little extra room!)  What a pretty style in floral print, with a halter-tie, criss-cross neckline and figure-flattering (for some) skirt.

Of course, it has built-in bra cups and an elasticized back, waist and leg openings.  Naturally, a back metal zipper, too.

True vintage labels are often so quaint – this one reads: ” Catalina – part of the art of Eve. ”   THAT’S a rather heavy thought to consider . . . . . .

OUR GRANDMOTHERS AND THEIR MOMS AND GRANDMAS KNITTED SWEATERS ALL YEAR LONG!!

IMG_1461 It’s hard to imagine, but

IMG_1462mid-century and before women wore sweaters of one kind or another all year.  These McCall’s needlework magazine pictures from the 1950’s and early 1960’s prove it!  Not only dresses, cardigans and little boleros, but I’ve seen patterns for shorts and even bathing suits.

If you keep a woman confined with time on her hands, it’s amazing what she will come up with . . . . . . . .

EARLY '60'S (OR LATE '50'S) DRESSY 3/4 SLEEVED COAT JACKET FROM A CHICAGO DESIGNER

This is an LBJ rather than an LBD – a Little Black Jacket. One of my very favorite surprise finds!  And, just perfect for shoulder-season wear – when it’s not too hot or too cold outside yet.

Late ’50’s – early ’60’s – just about First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy’s time. She could have worn one like it over a dressy LBD or evening wear. Look at the trim around the collar and the heavy, glossy fabric.

It has 3/4 length sleeves with bows at the cuff, large covered buttons and a bow at the neck and falls straight in a boxy cut. Two side pockets at the hips. The length of the hem would also be 3/4 on a taller person.

From a Chicago clothier – maybe tailor-made and very distinctive. Never run across one like it before, or since, but I have seen pictures of them from that time.
