TRUE VINTAGE BLUE FEATHER ’50’S/’60’S “SUNDAY” HAT WITH VEIL

A SPECIAL HOLIDAY HAT – HAPPY EASTER!

Celia loves this one – it’s a little demure/dressy accessory that takes its mood from the occasion, the ensemble and the wearer. LOVE feather hats and veils . . . . . . . . . .

Back in the Fifties or early Sixties, a hat like this was not off the radar, but it was a statement. Every woman adored hats and looked for just the right ones to accent her dresses, suits and stunning good looks.

Another of my favorites . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . .

VERY INTENSE ST. VALENTINE'S DAY SCARLET SHEATH FROM THE 1950'S

Now we’re getting REALLY serious – this velveteen sheath with a cowl neckline and fabulous shoulder tails is the ultimate chic. Dark red with a rayon lining – it’s one of a kind.

Imagine an entrance in THIS! Aside from the color, it’s not in-your-face, but would initiate and hold stares of wonder and disbelief.

You must be prepared to wear a dress like this, and it’s not for anyone without PRESENCE. Your date had better have some, too. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A “NEW” (TO ME) TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S NIGHTGOWN & PEIGNOIR SET

Another beautiful, heavy nylon sleep ensemble with delicate embroidery trim. What attracted me most was the color combination – pink with taupe beige decoration – a great color combination for me.

If you haven’t “had your colors done”, do it! This process became popular in the ’90’s and was all the rage for a while. It’s a system that educates you about the colors which are most flattering to you, personally, and IT WORKS!

Makes all the difference between wearing things that make you look sick, OK, good or FABULOUS. Even if you think you know what looks good on you, you’ll learn a lot, correct some mistakes and understand your skin color better.

There are several versions of this tutorial around, I think, and I’m not sure how good they all are. My advice is to get an old copy of the book “Color Me Beautiful”, which explains the whole process and lets you do it yourself. At least, that’s what I did.

Why am I talking about this in a blog about vintage clothing? Because knowing your colors well is one of the skills that make you an ace shopper. You’ll avoid mistakes and save money, which is part of what my “instruction” is all about.

Just another one of my little secrets . . . . . . . . . . . .
