ANOTHER UNUSUAL FIND FROM MY CLOSET – TRUE VINTAGE EARLY 1950’S COAT

Love this true vintage coat!  Beautiful wool, by Sterling, also with a one-button closure and lovely shawl collar.  This kind of sumptuous material is pure vintage and the pattern makes it unusual.

Neutral colors make it perfect for any cold season – autumn on into winter.

It was a surprise find that I snapped up in a flash!  Most of my finds are that way, which is what makes vintage-hunting so much fun and such a wonderful bargain.

A CLASSIC MID-CENTURY TRUE VINTAGE CASUAL SWING COAT

IMG_0112

This lovely true #vintage #coat is in a brown tweed with flecks of other warm colors and has a brown acetate lining. Though the photo doesn’t do it justice, it is really cute and has a nice swing.  It makes me think of Britain, though I think it was made in the U.S. – “a Petite by Fashioned”.  It’s so classic and of high quality that I can’t say exactly when it was made.

I love the little straps with buttons that decorate the collar on either side of the neck.  Little touches like this are the delight of true vintage items and aren’t done nearly as well (if at all) on more modern #clothing.

This coat closes with only one hidden button in front.  I have one or two others like this and several, as well as capes, that don’t close at all or just at the neck.  I…

TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S COCKTAIL DRESS, FROM AUSTRALIA!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs often happens with black things and when photographing without a model, I couldn’t get good detail in a picture but want to tell you about this great find anyway.  I’m sure that you’ll be able to see it in your mind’s eye.  Picture this . . .

Heavy black crepe, fully lined. Metal zipper up the middle of the back and a small kick pleat at the hem.  Classic sheath style, but with a waist seam and a black fabric rosette toward the left side there. The neck is scooped front and back, with layers of draped fabric all around.   The label is from a maker, or maybe a department store, which is Australian.

As always, the fabric and the tailoring distinguish it from the tons of modern black dresses that can be found anywhere.  And, it fits much better, too.  This one will last another 50 years!

TRUE VINTAGE 1950’S WESTERN-WEAR LEATHER JACKET FOR FALL

Morgana Martin, the magicvintagespy's avatarMagicvintagespy

True Vintage Leatherwear

Beautiful true vintage western-wear jacket from the 1950s/early ’60s. Notice the superb workmanship and tailoring (even though it would look best on a size 4 model rather than size 6).

I LOVE the older leather items made in the American west, or in Mexico and Europe.  So beautiful!  Forgive me if your country has made wonderful leather items, too, and I have not mentioned you here.

The materials are of high quality and have enabled it to last for 50 years with very little sign of wear.  Find a jacket of this type and enjoy it for life!

TRUE VINTAGE 1940’S PARTY-WEAR – GREAT BOHO BLOUSE A’LA JANE RUSSELL

Morgana Martin, the magicvintagespy's avatarMagicvintagespy

Original True Vintage Party Dressing (or cafe' boho garb?)

Great black velveteen top from the 40s or, maybe, early 50s. It’s a vintage size 16 (can you imagine! Size 4 me can wear it, though it’s very Jane Russell w/o all the decolletage). Just goes to show how sizes have changed.

The back neckline is a wide scoop. There is a short metal zipper at the waist on left. Imagine this worn with a long sweeping skirt, a pencil skirt or cigarette pants with a wide belt – all black or imaginative color combos. This style can easily go elegant or boho/beatnik.

The style is really flattering & dramatic. The neckline is beautiful left alone or showcasing a necklace or long dangling earrings (not both, please).

Another fabulous example of original true vintage elegance, found unexpectedly. You just never know . . .

TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S PLAID JUMPER DRESS OF SCOTTISH WOOL

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAGreat find!  My second one here, a couple of weeks ago and I was thrilled to discover this classic Sixties style in beautiful fabric from Scotland, and in almost perfect condition.

Look at the colors in that plaid – classic tartans and tweeds from Scotland and Ireland are so beautiful and of such exceptional quality.  It just doesn’t get better.

Fully lined with a metal zip up the back.  Just what a mid-sixties schoolgirl, co-ed or young career woman might have worn.  It seems that it is an unusual find here, because not many woolens are worn, due to the warm climate.  We have the British heritage to thank for this!

Finding this was almost as good as petting koalas and kangaroos . . . . .
