“NEW” DISCOVERY! TRUE VINTAGE LATE 1960’S FLOWER-POWER BLOUSE BY MISTER LEONARD

IMG_1716This is the most wonderful sheer flower-print blouse with big pirate sleeves!!!  It’s so FLOWER POWER in the colors that were popular then.

All the telling tailoring signs of the time are there, too – the cut and the finishing details.  Can’t wait to photograph it on Stella, who will give the style it’s correct shape.

But, the best shape is when I get to wear it!  And, it’s just my size . . . . . . . . . .

BEAUTIFUL TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S DRESSY BLOUSE

IMG_1682Here’s a great picture of a Sixties blouse that would have been worn to a holiday party or a dance.  Not my style, personally, but it’s so perfectly of that time and in such wonderful condition – how could I resist?

With buttons all the way up the back, a well-finished hem made to wear untucked over dress pants or a long skirt and that jabot-type flounce at the collar (SO ’60’s!), it’s another of those garments with British influence.  Could work very well as part of a Halloween costume, too.

The maker’s label is even embroidered in gold thread.  Someone took very good care of this top and kept it for special occasions.  I’ve been really fortunate lately to find so many vintage blouses and shirts in outstanding condition!  Often, these pieces are like slacks – they accumulate so much wear over the years with stains and tears that they’ll end up being discarded by the original owner.

But, thanks to the superior quality of true vintage clothing and the care many of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers took with their wardrobes, some of them are still out there to be discovered . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

ANOTHER FUN FIND! TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S LADIES SKY BLUE CORFAM HEELS

IMG_1712Aren’t these just amazing?  Brand “new” Mod pumps – just right on a date with the man wearing the shirt in yesterday’s post.

This is one of my favorite shoe colors and, in this case, made of easy-care vinyl.  Of course, I would prefer leather but Corfam is iconic Sixties and has its advantages, too.

Mid-heel pumps are also iconic Sixties and will look great with many different outfits.  Wow – I’m really in rare find heaven recently!  Can’t wait to see what’s around the corner . . . . . . .

ANOTHER RARE FIND! TRUE VINTAGE MEN’S RAYON SHIRT IN A PSYCHEDELIC PRINT

IMG_1707Men’s true vintage shirts in great condition are an even more elusive find than women’s are because, alas, you blokes have never been known for looking after your clothing very well.  So many wonderful pieces just haven’t survived.

But, this one – in the silkiest, most beautiful rayon weave, is almost like new. Looks like another example of the late Sixties, “Carnaby Street” days (like the women’s blouse shown yesterday), but that’s indefinite and subject to further research..

The pockets are so skillfully applied that I almost didn’t see one of them and saw the other one mostly because I expected it to be there.  Superb tailoring and marvelous fabrics are two of the factors that make vintage fashion so fabulous.

Fun, fun, fun . . . . . . . . . . . .

BEAUTIFUL TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S WHITE COTTON BLOUSE

IMG_1704There’s nothing like cottons from the 1960’s and before.  And, the gorgeous, lady-like styles from those past decades have never been done as well since then.  I’m always so excited to find another one!

The trims are beautifully made and the tailoring is impeccable.  Nice buttons, too.  The fit is excellent.  The fabric feels soft but substantial and lasts forever.

Although sometimes a little fussy, styles from the late 1960’s are fun and have that British flair that was popular then.  Of course, it looks great with the ribbon skirt shown yesterday or a mini, but I like them with jeans, too, or bell-bottom pants.

The new finds just keep on coming.  Groovy . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

ALL KINDS OF TRUE VINTAGE DRESS FINDS! THIS ONE’S A PREPPY DAY DRESS FROM THE SIXTIES

IMG_1709Pretty in pink again.  This beautiful summer dress is in virtually perfect condition – its owner was very meticulous about caring for her clothing, like so many women of two or more generations ago.  It’s a great example of the preppy styles that were very popular during the Sixties and early 1970’s.

Floral applique’s in front and a belted waist.  Traditional and lady-like in design, classic in tailoring with all the touches of a well-made garment.  This was the favorite every-day style of the country-club set back in the day (maybe still is – traditional tastes don’t seem to change much).

So, for a proper and buttoned-down look this frock is just right.  It’s so classic and subtle, you could get by with it anywhere and always look well-dressed – like, maybe, for dinner with the future in-laws . .. .. . . . . . . . . ..

I’VE DISCOVERED SO MANY TRUE VINTAGE PARTY DRESSES AND GOWNS IN THE PAST FOUR WEEKS . . . . . . .

IMG_1674Here’s Stella showing off  a mid-century sweet-sixteen Prom dress with the traditional small-town high school look.  Pretty bows and lace, with a 2 or 3-layer skirt, but no high-end fashion drama or expensive fabrics.

This is how most girls went to the dance in 1965 – 1975.  Bye, bye Miss American Pie . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ..

THE FABULOUS BLACK & WHITE MID-CENTURY MOD DAY DRESS – STELLA MODELS

IMG_1699Here’s the neatest view of that great Caron Chicago frock I recently found.  With a black back-drop it creates wonderful negative space.  I’m so impressed by the ingenuity of the designer.

Stella and Madge make everything look better – you just can’t do this frock justice when it’s on a hanger.  This is one of the best-looking 1960’s op-art pieces I’ve ever seen – so unusual and unique.

I’m home from my weekend away, with 9 more true vintage finds to share with you!

TRUE VINTAGE PRAIRIE DRESS FIND – FROM THE U.S. SOUTHWEST

IMG_1673Here’s a much better picture of the frilly Prairie-style gown that I found in Santa Fe.  It’s from the Sixties or Seventies and might have been worn to a dance or some kind of historical event but, if that’s your style, it could look nice as a day dress.

The fabric is very sheer, but the dress is lined.  The details are very pretty, and carefully applied.  Though I’m not sure when/where I’ll wear it, picking up such a good example of an era is always worthwhile.

Come to think of it, it’s a piece that would make a good starting point for a great Halloween costume . . . . . . . . . . . . .

FOUND YESTERDAY – THE CUTEST TRUE VINTAGE CHRISTMAS DRESS IN THE WORLD!!!

IMG_1686IMG_1687Well, probably – it would certainly have a huge chance of winning the contest!  Don’t you love the collar?  And the bright red wool.  It’s party time!

There’s no label – I suspect the dress was custom-tailored.  And, for a woman a lot shorter than Stella – the hem should at least be at the knee and the sleeves a tiny bit longer because I’d date it about 1960.

It’s finds like this that make my day – but there’s lots more . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
