NEW FIND! TRUE VINTAGE ’60’S – ’70’S DRESSY DINNER DATE COCKTAIL SHEATH DRESS

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt’s hard to see in this photograph, but the satin material behind the lace is a beautiful soft rose color.  The skirt is black crepe – the classic dressy fabric that is so perfect for frocks of this type.  It’s a vintage size 8, which fits like a current size 2 to 4.  Perfect condition.

This design is made to look like a two-piece ensemble, though it is a straight sheath style with a zipper up the back.  It hugs the body and even looks good on a hanger, which is lucky when I don’t have Madge or Stella to model it for me!

Made by PACO, which is a relatively upscale label for dressy clothing here in Australia.

Great find!

TRUE VINTAGE 1960’S COCKTAIL DRESS, FROM AUSTRALIA!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs often happens with black things and when photographing without a model, I couldn’t get good detail in a picture but want to tell you about this great find anyway.  I’m sure that you’ll be able to see it in your mind’s eye.  Picture this . . .

Heavy black crepe, fully lined. Metal zipper up the middle of the back and a small kick pleat at the hem.  Classic sheath style, but with a waist seam and a black fabric rosette toward the left side there. The neck is scooped front and back, with layers of draped fabric all around.   The label is from a maker, or maybe a department store, which is Australian.

As always, the fabric and the tailoring distinguish it from the tons of modern black dresses that can be found anywhere.  And, it fits much better, too.  This one will last another 50 years!

ANOTHER "NEW" DISCOVERY! SUNNY TRUE VINTAGE FLOWER POWER FORMAL FROM THE SIXTIES.

SUNNY TRUE VINTAGE FLOWER POWER FORMAL FROM THE SIXTIES

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     This custom-tailored lovely was made for a formal dance sometime in the late sixties.  Polyester georgette on top, with a glossy skirt and covered belt.  As hot as it’s been lately, I could see wearing this to a Homecoming dance!

I really miss having Madge and Stella with me when I travel, but found a pretty successful way to present this one and it’s sisters that I discovered with it. (See yesterday’s post and tomorrow . . . . .)

Pretty and cheerful floral print in Mod era colors – so popular at that time.  Maybe a Prom dress?  Who knows . . . . .

TRUE VINTAGE MID-CENTURY CASUAL GINGHAM & MEXICAN SILVER JEWELRY

IMG_0908IMG_0942     These garments are from the mid-century, and a bit difficult to date – especially the blouse.  It almost looks like  a square-dancing  costume.  With jeans or a skirt it’s super-cute.  I love gingham in almost anything and really enjoy wearing these.  It’s so cute and has been classic for decades.

The real star of this post is the jewelry – from Mexico anywhere from the 1930’s to 1950’s, I’d say.  Beautiful quality in 925 silver and inlaid mother-of-pearl.  Pendant, pins and earrings – they’re great with casual, Western-wear clothing and can be dressed up, too.  They really are of fine quality and workmanship – like nothing I see today.  Looked for something similar in Mexico last year, but these are the winners.

I’ll be going to Chicago this weekend, so will be off-line for a couple of days. Wonder what I’ll discover.  May have some fun things to report when I return!
