MY ELEGANT 1950'S WOMEN'S WINTER COATS WITH FUR

Every well-dressed woman in the 1950’s needed at least one tailored wool coat of good quality. Each of these could take her anywhere – from a dress-up occasion to mundane shopping errands.

It could even be thrown over a house-dress! If she were just making quick stops, no one would have to know and her smart good looks would make a very good impression.

These are all beautifully made. The collars and the lines flatter in different ways. Basic neutrals like this are the most versatile, while also holding the top spot when it comes to enduring elegance.  Always one of the best wardrobe investments we could make . . . .

MY BEAUTIFUL, SEXY, FRENCH – INSPIRED MID – CENTURY WINTER COAT WITH FUR

MY BEAUTIFUL, SEXY, FRENCH - INSPIRED MID - CENTURY WINTER COAT WITH FUR

This is one of my very favorite coats because I LOVE the nipped waist and big, feminine collar. Really shows off the face and enhances your figure.

The mid-blue is nice, too. Not as many coats were made in this color as in the neutrals: black, brown, navy and grey. They’re all gorgeous, but this one is special. Remember, ONLY true vintage or faux fur are humane. Buying modern fur supports the cruel market.

Rarely have I seen a style like this – it is an unusual find. But, those are always the most intriguing . . . .. .. . . . . . . . . .

LADIES’ TRUE VINTAGE PUMPS FROM 1953, COMMEMORATING THE CORONATION OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II

LADIES' TRUE VINTAGE PUMPS FROM 1953, COMMEMORATING THE CORONATION OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II

From the Shoe Museum in Mexico City, these shoes were specially made in celebration of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth the Second of Great Britain, in 1953. Special decorations on the vamps . . . . . .

It’s still plenty cold outside, so over the next two weeks I’ll be showing the last of my beautiful winter coats. The photos I was able to get from the shoe museum will be interspersed with them – lovely examples of near-new footwear from about 1920 – 1970.

TIME TO GET SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR TRUE VINTAGE ENSEMBLE FOR ST. VALENTINE’S DAY

TIME TO GET SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR TRUE VINTAGE ENSEMBLE FOR ST. VALENTINE'S DAY

It’s just 13 days now till St. Valentine’s Day (& night!), so it’s time to get seriously ready! Two posts today, and let’s start from the outside and the shopping (?) trip.

Baby, it’s pretty cold outside most places so what to wear over your beautiful dress? How about this gorgeous heavy wool with mink collar and big decorative buttons, from the 1950’s?  Though I would NEVER buy a modern fur, I cherish my decades-old true vintage pieces and honor the spirits of the animals who gave them.

Nothing will keep you warmer, while looking like a Princess. It makes a hugely eye-catching statement, too – a real head-turner.  Also has a silky, red lining that glides over your skin and clothing and leaves you feeling really good . . . . . . . . .

MUST HAVE A NECKLACE WITH THAT PARTY DRESS? HERE’S A PERFECT ONE . . . . . . . ..

MUST HAVE A NECKLACE WITH THAT PARTY DRESS? HERE'S A PERFECT ONE . . . . . . . ..

This would be a great piece to wear with the cocktail dress just shown. Rhinestones and baroque “pearls” in white, along with champagne-colored accent “pearls” on the chain. Sorry the focus is a little off.

That dress doesn’t need a thing with it, and certainly DON’T wear showy earrings with this necklace. But, as one statement piece, this lovely collar would really shine.

What a find! It looked like a lost cause, but I fixed it up in no time. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

ALL THE NEWS THAT’S FIT TO PRINT . . . . . . . . . . ..

First off, thanks everybody for BEST DAILY VIEWS COUNT YESTERDAY!!!  So many cool and interesting people following – it’s so much fun to see your sites, respond to your comments and welcome kindred spirits . . . . .. . . . .

Mexico is lovely and highly recommended as a trip destination!  People are very gracious and refined.  Never felt threatened in any way, whether in Mexico City, Acapulco or Taxco.  The historical sites are very well-presented and the Museum of Anthropology is world-class.

No, overall it’s not a vintage-hunter’s paradise but I did discover one large market selling second-hand clothing from the U.S. where you might find a couple of treasures if you have several hours to do a thorough search. At the bus station, I saw a young woman who was dressed in such an artistic way, I knew I had to introduce myself.  Surprise – we share our name!  I knew this was a good sign.  She clued me in to a place to look, where she had found a Pucci tie several weeks before. Thanks, K. Morgana! Later that week, I was able to spend 2 hours and turned up a like-new pair of Dr. Scholl’s original exercise sandals (leather and wood with polyurethane outsoles) in MY SIZE. Still the best. What color? RED!! I’ll show them when we move into summer. . . . . .

Right now, that red means, of course, St. Valentine’s Day and I’ve got a lovely line-up to show this week. . .
