JUST FOUND TODAY!! TWO TRUE VINTAGE 1950’S – EARLY 1960’S LINGERIE NIGHTGOWNS

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     Both these lovely nighties are made of 100% nylon with lovely texture, typical of their era.  The gown on the left is two layers, with accordian pleats on top and beautiful lace and ribbons at the neckline.  Honeymoon stuff . . . . .

The gown on the right is much simpler and sweet, with ruffles at the armholes, floral print on the bodice, vintage buttons and a belt which ties in back.  Just right for the next slumber party.. . . . .

Love it so much!  I also found a fabulous rayon dressy sheath from the Forties or Fifties – will show you in a day or two.  Stay tuned. . . .

This jacket was a great find! It wasn’t  really high-end in it’s time, but it is nicely made and in excellent vintage condition.

Western-wear is classic and always comes back into fashion, but . . . .  The true vintage pieces are, I find, the best when it comes to styling and workmanship.

I was so fortunate to discover this one, which even had some additional matching fringe with it – just in case.  Although it is intact as is, having extra original fabric or buttons, etc. is such a blessing, and rare!

This true vintage beauty from the ’50s or early ’60s was another surprise find.  In textured wool, 3/4 length in a swing design (love that), angled pockets, wing collar and a silky satin black lining.

Label from Marshal Field & Company, Chicago.  The buttons, of plastic or bakelite, are carved to reflect light in such a way that they sparkle as though there were rhinestones!  I’ve never seen buttons like this before (and I’ve seen LOTS of vintage buttons).

Like new. Looks great on! It was stuck in with a lot of other nondescript coats.  You just never know . . . .Image

Although you  may say that the copycats made in the last few years look just like these, you would be mistaken.  In almost all cases, the quality of the true vintage pieces is superior in some way or another – either materials, workmanship or design.  Even these budget-type examples  . . .

True vintage has  features that are quite unique and tell a different story, both about the person who owned and wore them and about history.  It’s fascinating. Image When you find the real thing, you may never want to buy faux “vintage” again.
