For the dress shown yesterday, a short slip would be a necessity. I’m so happy to have a variety of lengths in these gorgeous 1950’s beauties – it’s such a shame to shorten a lovely piece like these, though some were specially made to allow you to do that without ruining the design.

This dress was a lot of fun to find because it tells a story, in a way. Someone made it at home and it was altered a bit after-the-fact. It would fit a very tiny woman or, perhaps, a girl.
It’s got cute little sculpted vintage buttons on the front, as I would expect (and hope) to see, but the fabric is very unusual. It’s a synthetic – poly or poly-blend and has a glossy finish – not an expensive fabric at all. But, the pattern is very interesting – like something I’ve never seen.
All of those lines and colors that you see are not just caused by reflection – they are an actual pattern printed on the fabric that is almost kaleidoscopic. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that in something today, but I’ve never seen it in a true vintage garment. Hmm.. . . . . . . . . . . . always fascinating to find something “new” . . . . . . . . . . . . .

This sweater just looks plain-old normal, right? This is a back view and take a close look at the neckline for the short back zipper.
That’s one good clue that you’ve found a true vintage piece. There are others, too, of course. You have to be careful of the modern copy-cats.
You’ll find that the fit and construction of these garments is likely better than what you’d buy at retail now. And, of course, it has the unmistakable true vintage “look” that makes it different. I’ll put up another related post in a minute . . . . . . . . . .
