FABULOUS TRUE VINTAGE JACKIE KENNEDY EARLY 1960’S SKIRT SUIT, PERFECT FOR EASTER SUNDAY

IMG_0985    This suit is so iconic of that era.  Gorgeous yellow wool in a loose weave, with a cute little vintage mink collar.  If the collar is too dressy, it can easily be removed with just a snip-snip because it is just hand-basted onto the neckline.

It’s easy to wear and the two pieces can be very versatile.  True vintage suits are worth investing in for many reasons – the styles are usually quite elegant; tailoring is superb and the quality of materials are unavailable today.  Because the designs are classic, the jackets and skirts can usually be worn many ways that would never have been thought of decades ago.

Love the big covered buttons and pencil skirt.  So pretty, and a nice alternative to dark, somber colors for Fall and Winter.  Being on the prowl is so much fun, because you just never know . . . …

Every well-dressed woman in the 1950’s needed at least one tailored wool coat of good quality. Each of these could take her anywhere – from a dress-up occasion to mundane shopping errands.

It could even be thrown over a house-dress! If she were just making quick stops, no one would have to know and her smart good looks would make a very good impression.

These are all beautifully made. The collars and the lines flatter in different ways. Basic neutrals like this are the most versatile, while also holding the top spot when it comes to enduring elegance.  Always one of the best wardrobe investments we could make . . . .

TIME TO GET SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR TRUE VINTAGE ENSEMBLE FOR ST. VALENTINE'S DAY

It’s just 13 days now till St. Valentine’s Day (& night!), so it’s time to get seriously ready! Two posts today, and let’s start from the outside and the shopping (?) trip.

Baby, it’s pretty cold outside most places so what to wear over your beautiful dress? How about this gorgeous heavy wool with mink collar and big decorative buttons, from the 1950’s?  Though I would NEVER buy a modern fur, I cherish my decades-old true vintage pieces and honor the spirits of the animals who gave them.

Nothing will keep you warmer, while looking like a Princess. It makes a hugely eye-catching statement, too – a real head-turner.  Also has a silky, red lining that glides over your skin and clothing and leaves you feeling really good . . . . . . . . .

Another version of the 1950’s Car Coat, in Suede with Mink

IMG_0121

An iconic style from the ’50s, this true vintage “car coat” can go from dressy to casual, in cool to mild weather.  I’ve found quite a few coats and jackets in suede from that era and find that they all hold up beautifully.  Fortunately for us, our mothers and grandmothers seem to have looked after their wardrobes very well, too.

Since these items are mostly of a higher quality material and construction, we can continue to enjoy them for years to come!  I’ve found a ton of great true vintage items during this past week, exploring  hidden hide-outs.  Keep watching and I’ll sprinkle some of these in among the posts.  It’s  SO MUCH FUN!  You just never know . . . . .

Iconic ’50s/early ’60s Suede #Coat w/Mink Trim

Iconic '50s/early '60s Suede #Coat w/Mink Trim

I have found several coats like this in my searches for #vintage #fashion. Obviously, it was a very popular style in the late’50s/early ’60s, in a fall/spring weight rather than for winter. They are made of fine #suede, with covered buttons and two front pockets. The collar can be worn open or hooked in front to form a cowl.
All the coats I have seen have been in earth tones of beige to dark brown, rust and olive. These are beautiful coats. In my experience, suede is not difficult to care for if you don’t mistreat it.
I always clean any little spots with a foam cleaner made for suede and a brush. Ask your shoe/leather repair professional for advice and always read directions carefully on any care product before using. Add some gorgeous true vintage #coats to your wardrobe!
