Sexy, summer shirtwaist sundress. True vintage, of course . . . . .
This beautiful polished cotton frock – Kay Whitney by Huntington – is absolutely gorgeous. The fabric and the tailoring are top notch.
Naturally, it’s got a fabric-covered belt, the full skirt and a generous hem allowance. It’s not a one-off design, I found, when I saw another identical to it on eBay – but it’s wonderful anyway.
However, this one is one-off now! As beautiful as it was in its original design, it was a bit too conservative a style to be flattering on me. The shoulder straps were wider and it had a fabric tie sewn completely around the neckline which you would tie in a bow in front. Pretty, but not me.
I removed the tie, making the shoulders skinnier and the neckline wider. I used some of the leftover tie material to make little flat bows at the shoulders. Of course, if you are a purist, you…

Hmm mm. With the fabric tie around the neck, it would’ve been more of a day look, but you’ve made it into a more evening-appropriate dress. I think the colors are more suited for evening anyway.

Definitely. And more of a traditional Southern Lady look. Nice, but not me. Just like modern clothing, vintage clothing lets you do the range of styles – whatever you like best!

Well yeah more of a southern lady look (but I lived my whole life in brooklyn,ny, so what do I REALLY knows from southern ladies). I would say the more “conservative” look is good for the office, for brunch, for jury duty, for meeting the in-laws. The streamlined, sleeker look, that’s for evening.

Well, that original design wouldn’t have been my “conservative” look unless I were a Southern Lady. I would do conservative more like a New Yorker, or as I imagine a New Yorker would do. T each his/her own!

I’m a Brooklyn Italian & I do looks right out of the Godfather at times (when it’s socially appropriate) but I love a 1950s secretary look too
