TRUE VINTAGE FLORIDA FROCK FROM THE SUNSHINE STATE

TRUE VINTAGE FLORIDA FROCK FROM THE SUNSHINE STATE

Carrying on with sunny colors, this lovely dress was custom – tailored of citrus – hued silk, with a soft, silky lining. The sleeveless drop-waist styling harks back to the 1920’s but, I believe, it was made in the Sixties.

Back closure of the torso with hooks and eyes and a short zipper at the waist. Below-the-knee hem . . . . . . . . .

FROM SUNNY FLORIDA – A LIGHTWEIGHT RAYON BLOUSE FROM THE 1960’S

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

From a specialty shop in the Orange State, a breezy rayon blouse in citrus pastels. I love finding true vintage items with the labels of specialty shops in them because they are always unique and of high quality.

THE MYSTERIOUS CRAFT OF MANIFESTING TRUE VINTAGE FASHION: FINDERS’ CLUE #24

Finding true vintage fashion items is not rocket science, but it does involve many bits of skill, knowledge and experience that come together.  These tips may seem simple and even boring by themselves, but together they have made a big difference in my overall success.  Of course, there are many more details involved with each one, but the basic idea is where to start.

FINDERS’ CLUE #24:  With creativity, skill and experience many sizing problems can be solved or transformed.

1950’S SPRING COATS IN LOVELY PASTELS

FROM THE 1960’S – LONG, TALL COLUMN DRESS IN BLACK VELVET

FROM THE 1960'S - LONG, TALL COLUMN DRESS IN BLACK VELVET

This is a recent find, stately and elegant with no fuss or decoration. Just a lovely cut, well-fitting sheath that falls to the floor.

I love black velvet, and this is sumptuous. Not the velveteen that was quite popular during that decade . . . . . .. This dress, I feel sure, was custom-tailored. It’s done very well, but seems to have the hallmarks of hand-construction.

I’ll be keeping this one for a LONG time . . . . . . . . . . .

CLASSIC TRUE VINTAGE WOOL COATS, LIGHTENING UP FOR THE END OF WINTER

CLASSIC TRUE VINTAGE WOOL COATS, LIGHTENING UP FOR THE END OF WINTER

Two stylish coats with flattering lines. I always love a nipped waist. The style on the left, I believe, is from the fifties but could have been a bit earlier. The coat on the right is from the early 1970’s.

Still wool, which we’re needing in many places yet, but in lighter-weight colors that can make us feel like swinging into Spring before too long . . . . . . . . . . . . .

MY ELEGANT 1950’S WOMEN’S WINTER COATS WITH FUR

MY ELEGANT 1950'S WOMEN'S WINTER COATS WITH FUR.

MY ELEGANT 1950’S WOMEN’S WINTER COATS WITH FUR COLLARS

MY ELEGANT 1950'S WOMEN'S WINTER COATS WITH FUR

Every well-dressed woman in the 1950’s needed at least one tailored wool coat of good quality. Each of these could take her anywhere – from a dress-up occasion to mundane shopping errands.

It could even be thrown over a house-dress! If she were just making quick stops, no one would have to know and her smart good looks would make a very good impression.

These are all beautifully made. The collars and the lines flatter in different ways. Basic neutrals like this are the most versatile, while also holding the top spot when it comes to enduring elegance.  Always one of the best wardrobe investments we could make . . . .

MY BEAUTIFUL, SEXY, FRENCH – INSPIRED MID – CENTURY WINTER COAT WITH FUR

MY BEAUTIFUL, SEXY, FRENCH - INSPIRED MID - CENTURY WINTER COAT WITH FUR

This is one of my very favorite coats because I LOVE the nipped waist and big, feminine collar. Really shows off the face and enhances your figure.

The mid-blue is nice, too. Not as many coats were made in this color as in the neutrals: black, brown, navy and grey. They’re all gorgeous, but this one is special. Remember, ONLY true vintage or faux fur are humane. Buying modern fur supports the cruel market.

Rarely have I seen a style like this – it is an unusual find. But, those are always the most intriguing . . . .. .. . . . . . . . . .

LADIES’ TRUE VINTAGE PUMPS FROM 1953, COMMEMORATING THE CORONATION OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II

LADIES' TRUE VINTAGE PUMPS FROM 1953, COMMEMORATING THE CORONATION OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II

From the Shoe Museum in Mexico City, these shoes were specially made in celebration of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth the Second of Great Britain, in 1953. Special decorations on the vamps . . . . . .

It’s still plenty cold outside, so over the next two weeks I’ll be showing the last of my beautiful winter coats. The photos I was able to get from the shoe museum will be interspersed with them – lovely examples of near-new footwear from about 1920 – 1970.
