1960’S – ’70’S WESTERN-WEAR KNOCK-OFF SHIRT BY AN OLD CATALOG FAVORITE BRAND

Faithful Western-wear style with a front and back yoke, chest pockets and pearlized snap closures (2 on each cuff). Compared to authentic western-wear this fabric is really lightweight, so better as a casual fashion shirt. Look at that tag – what convenience! Super easy-care. This garment has survived the decades almost intact, with just a little fabric wear and tear. Might make a good gardening shirt.

Good old “Monkey Ward” followed fashion trends well, just like Sears & Roebuck and J.C. Penney always did. Women around the U.S. waited impatiently for the new Spring catalogs to come out each year. After the 1970’s all these stores upped the offerings in their store locations and gradually phased out catalog sales. Maybe some still existed, but it was less important. Now these chains are closing down most of their outlets.

GREAT MID-CENTURY FIND – 3 ICONIC SPRING DRESSES

Fun – three in one! More surprise finds. I think all these dresses were owned by one woman who loved the easy-wear shirt-style frocks of the late 1950’s to early 1960’s. Although two of them have back closures, The nicest one, in center, was custom-made and is maybe the “newest” of the 3. It’s got a vintage nylon zipper whereas the other two have metal zips. They came from Montgomery Ward and Sears and Roebuck.

A little large for me, so they’ll probably find their way onto eBay next Spring, but I love them just the same. Wonder who recently had to give them up ? Part of the mystery – you just never know . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

BEST VINTAGE COTTON BATHROBE FOR HOT SUMMER DAYS!

So lightweight and cool but oh, so Vintage! Yes, it’s a man’s but not way big so I’ll happily curl up in this flattering gray-green printed wrap when the temps are soaring outside. In perfect condition, too! Not a bad pick for celebrating the St. Patrick’s holiday in a small way at home with a glass of green beer.

It’s a Brent brand – the men’s version of a Montgomery Ward proprietary label. Good old “Monkey Ward”. Like Sears & Roebuck, Simpson Sears (in Canada) and J.C. Penney, it served well as a moderately-priced department store and catalog shopping service for decades. It’s fun to collect the old catalogs, too, if you come across them.

This piece is just a lark and will be fun to wear. Also, it will probably last a long time, without the fraying seams and trim that are so common now. It already has . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A COUPLE OF REALLY FUN 1960’S FINDS

A fitted (the best) Western-style shirt in cotton blend with a floral wallpaper stripe and a true vintage paisley scarf, maybe both from “Monkey Ward” (see the shirt label and investigate the nickname online – fun).  Again in my size, though the blouse size must have been for a girl at that time.

Unusual finds per their fabulous condition.  I’ll enjoy wearing them – very much perfect examples of the fashion era when they were made.
