Super Spring & Summer Shirts for the Guys . . .. ..
I LOVE these shirts! Of course, I can’t wear them (WAY too big), but I couldn’t resist anyway. The photo doesn’t show you the details well, so I’ll describe. Let’s start with the true vintage shirt on the right.
This one was made in Hawaii in the 1960’s or ’70’s. Beautiful heavy 100% cotton fabric that is so characteristic of true vintage garments made there before about 1975. Since that time, the fabric usually isn’t so nice, nor the construction. My apologies to Hawaiian clothing-makers if there are exceptions.
The prints on these materials are also superb – nice designs and astounding colors. The label and the buttons used are also good clues as to the age of the shirt.

TWO WONDERFUL MEN’S SHORT-SLEEVED SHIRTS – TRUE VINTAGE 1970’S & RETRO – Magicvintagespy
My father is not tall but he’s a portly guy (OK, fine, he passed portly a couple dozen desserts ago) and while I may not be stick-thin, some of his short-sleeved button-downs are roomy (billowy, even) on me). I wear them round the house, over a slip while I’m getting ready, or I’ll throw one on over a bathing suit to make a run to the corner for cigarettes while I’m laying out in the yard. They’ve mostly from the ’80s and my mother was going to throw them out (they were cluttering up the attic) but I grabbed some before she tossed them…do I wear them for a night on the town, no, but for casual/lounge wear, they’re a great retro alternative to the dreaded house coat.

How fabulous for you!!! I’ve been able to wear some large boys’ shirts and a few of the smallest vintage size for men, but don’t have quite the shoulders to carry off anything else. How often I have wished that I could!!! You’ve pointed out good examples why women shouldn’t avoid the menswear department and, you know, for decades it’s been considered very sexy to wear your boyfriend’s shirt or sweater . . . . . . . . . Shoulder pads, just shove some in there, or not…unbuttoned over a slip, a too-big man’s shirt drapes like an open kimono, & won’t cling to you in NYC humidity.
