THE MYSTERIOUS CRAFT OF MANIFESTING TRUE VINTAGE FASHION: FINDERS’ CLUE #15

Finding true vintage fashion items is not rocket science, but it does involve many bits and pieces of knowledge, skill and experience that come together.  They may seem obvious or boring by themselves, but they have made a big difference in my overall success.  Of course, there are lots more details involved with each one, but the basic idea is where to start. . . . . . . . .

FINDERS’ CLUE #15 – ESPECIALLY WHEN THRIFTING, SLOW DOWN.  Many shoppers pass right by great things by going too fast.

I’ve got a couple of men’s bath/smoking robes of this style – each with a very different feel. This rayon one is “dashing” and “modern” in color and fabric design, though it’s been around for a long time.

The satin trim is classic, as well as the style, which endures even now.

These fashions always remind me of film noir, a favorite genre of mine. See you tomorrow.

GORGEOUS TRUE VINTAGE SLEEPWEAR LINGERIE BY ODETTE BARSA

I did show this nightgown once before, but since discovered the bed jacket, also by the same maker. You can see that she used some of the same designs on many of her items.

The ribbon trim woven into borders seems to be a trademark feature. The bed jacket was sold at Saks Fifth Avenue, as their label is also inside.

Specialty clothing like this is just another rung up the ladder of luxury in vintage-wear. Although the Odette Barsa company continued to be run by her children until the mid 1980’s, I’m sure that these garments pre-date that time.

Aren’t they lovely . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A FAVORITE TRUE VINTAGE ALMOST WIGGLE DRESS FROM THE 1950'S

This is another dress from the 1950’s that I wear often, because I really like the fit. It’s not tight enough to qualify as a true “wiggle dress”, I’d say, but it’s very flattering. And, a fit that’s not too tight is much more versatile and, many would say, even sexier. I think so.

It is really a simple day dress, cut well. The big pearlized buttons are such a fun addition to the style. The slightly-wider belt also accents the waist a little more.

These neutral black/white tones can go any time of year . . . . . . . . . .

A FAVORITE FALL SWING JACKET FROM THE 1940’S OR EARLY ’50’S

A FAVORITE FALL SWING JACKET FROM THE 1940'S OR EARLY '50'S.

A FAVORITE FALL SWING JACKET FROM THE 1940’S OR EARLY ’50’S

A FAVORITE FALL SWING JACKET FROM THE 1940'S OR EARLY '50'S This jacket is another real favorite. I always like anything from the Swing Era and the ’40’s.

Swing style with an open front, loose back and interesting pocket detail. The fit is so elegant.  I also love the decorative buttons on tabs at the waist, which are made as extensions of the pocket flaps. Novel idea.

The material is a heavy rayon (I guess) twill, with a rayon lining. “Tailored by Lydia Fashions New York”.  I could spend all day imagining the glamorous life it led!

Very smart for work or for evening.  Black is always extremely practical . . . . . . .
