Finding true vintage fashion items is not rocket science, but being really successful at it does involve many pieces of knowledge, skill and experience that come together. They seem simple and unexciting by themselves but make a big difference in my overall results. There are also popular myths about true vintage that can lead you astray. Of course, there are lots of details involved with each one, but the basic idea is where to start.
FINDERS’ CLUE #8: TRUE VINTAGE (1970’S & BEFORE) FABRIC USUALLY LOOKS AND FEELS DIFFERENT FROM FABRICS PRODUCED LATER.

Finding fabulous true vintage fashion items is not rocket science, BUT it does involve lots of pieces of skill, know-how and experience to have phenomenal success at it. These tips may seem simple and uninteresting by themselves, but together they make a lot of difference in my overall success. Of course, there are lots more details involved with each one, but the basic idea is where to start.
FINDERS’ CLUE #7: USE YOUR INTUITION.
Yes, that’s what I said – your intuition. Let me tell you – most all of my finds come from hunches and ideas I’ve had about where and when to search. As you do more of this, you’ll get better at it, but pay attention to those little thoughts and ideas that cross your mind, or a sudden stab of curiosity. It may pay off – you just never know . . . . . . . . .

FINDERS’ CLUE #6: Look at lots and lots of pictures of real vintage fashion items from past decades. You’ll find things a lot quicker and avoid making mistakes (and, therefore, buying things that you don’t really want, wasting your money) if you are clear on how vintage styles really look. When you get really familiar with them, you’ll rarely make a mistake, thinking that a lookalike modern thing is old. It will also help you to know how to wear them and which ones will flatter you the most. Pays off!

I’ll be traveling a bit over this long weekend, so may miss a post or two. Stay tuned – back soon, probably with loot. . . . . . . . . . . . .
Finding true vintage fashion items is not rocket science. Having lots of success at it, however, involves lots of little bits of knowledge, skill and experience that come together. They may seem simple and unexciting by themselves, but they make a BIG difference in my overall results. Of course, there are more details involved with each one, but the basic idea is where to begin. FINDERS’ CLUE #5: FIND A REALLY GOOD DRY-CLEANER, A TAILOR & A LEATHER REPAIR SERVICE
A good service for each of these three things is worth it’s weight in gold! Sometimes you’ll find the tailor at the dry-cleaner – sometimes in their own private business. Look around and ask around. Someone close by is also an asset, but go for the quality first.
Nothing can help you to preserve the life of your wardrobe items like having the advice and services of these people. Form a good relationship with them. Don’t be afraid to consult them about a problem or question. When you have this back-up, it also helps you when making should I buy it or not? decisions if you see an item you like but which has a flaw.

Wow! Big surprise – I uncovered a trove of 1940’s dresses and a beautifully sumptuous bed jacket, too. I’ll be showing them to you in future – I’ve still got many, many items to photograph and post for you. I’m tickled – you just never know . . . . . . . . .
