TRUE VINTAGE SILK KIMONO FROM THE 1960'S OR . . . . . . . . . . . . . .?

I found this kimono years ago, but I’m not sure how old it is. It’s at least from the 1960’s but maybe long before that.

The great thing about these older items is the exquisite detail and workmanship. Some items like these may still be available, but I have rarely seen them – even on a visit to Chinatown!

The fabric and embroidery are very fine and there is a lot of hand-done tailoring. Although the classic styles haven’t changed over the decades, you can tell the difference between those that are vintage and more modern ones.

I do also have 2 or 3 gorgeous silk robes made in the Chinese style for Saks Fifth Avenue in the’50’s, ’60’s or ’70’s that are beautifully detailed, but they are geared more to fashion than to authentic traditional Chinese costume.

I wonder where this one originally came from . . . .. . . . .. . . you just never know . . . . . . . . . . . . .

     Finding true vintage fashion items is not rocket science, BUT it does involve lots of bits of skill, knowledge and experience that come together.  Each one may seem boring and simple alone, but in combination they have made me VERY successful!  Of course, there are more details involved with each one, but the basic idea is where to start . . . . . . .

JUST A NOTE ABOUT ADS ON MY BLOG . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

     A few weeks ago (2 or 3 . . . . . ) I was surprised to notice an ad had been placed on my blog.  Apparently, my blog host had done so as a cost-saving method on their part.  I can opt out of this, but it will cost me to buy my way out.  

     I understand the host’s need to cover their costs and have decided to allow these ads for the time being, as they are supposed to be very rare and carefully screened.  If I don’t think they are  offensive, I will continue as things stand.

     Please be aware that I do not have anything to do with picking these ads, nor do I know when they may appear.  If anything that crops up is offensive to you, please leave me a comment about it.

     FINDING TRUE VINTAGE FASHION ITEMS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.  HOWEVER, .IT DOES INVOLVE LOTS OF BITS OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE THAT COME TOGETHER.  THEY SEEM SIMPLE AND UNEXCITING BY THEMSELVES, BUT MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN MY OVERALL SUCCESS. OF COURSE, THERE ARE LOTS MORE DETAILS INVOLVED WITH EACH ONE, BUT THE BASIC IDEA IS THE PLACE TO START. HERE’S ANOTHER CLUE . . . . . .

CLUE #9:  SKILLED VINTAGE-HUNTERS WILL OFTEN BUY DAMAGED ITEMS, BECAUSE THEY KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH PROBLEMS. THEY KNOW WHAT TO BUY AND WHEN TO LEAVE SOMETHING ALONE, WITHOUT ANXIETY.
