GORGEOUS TRUE VINTAGE SLEEPWEAR LINGERIE BY ODETTE BARSA

I did show this nightgown once before, but since discovered the bed jacket, also by the same maker. You can see that she used some of the same designs on many of her items.

The ribbon trim woven into borders seems to be a trademark feature. The bed jacket was sold at Saks Fifth Avenue, as their label is also inside.

Specialty clothing like this is just another rung up the ladder of luxury in vintage-wear. Although the Odette Barsa company continued to be run by her children until the mid 1980’s, I’m sure that these garments pre-date that time.

Aren’t they lovely . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

     Finding true vintage fashion items is not rocket science, but it does involve many bits and pieces of knowledge, skill and experience that come together.  They may seem simple and boring by themselves, but together they have made me the successful sleuth I am!  Of course, there are more details involved with each one, but the basic idea is where to start.

FINDERS’ CLUE #14:  DON’T BE THROWN BY SIZE LABELS IN VINTAGE GARMENTS.  IF YOU’RE NOT REALLY SAVVY ABOUT THE WAY SIZES HAVE CHANGED, TRY IT ON!  IT JUST MIGHT FIT YOU . . . . . . . . . .

What’s so special about this sweater? At least three things. OK, OK, I know that it doesn’t look unusual at first glance, but . . . . . . . . . ..

!. The vintage label is still in the neckline. Webb Foot does not have a label now. 2. The lambswool knit is plush and dense – difficult to find knits like that today. 3. The tiny dyed-to-match buttons at the neckline are also characteristic of vintage-wear.

On top of that, it’s got nice 3/4 sleeves and overall high quality that gives a very good fit, even after half a century! Great with any skirt or slacks. Looks fabulous on Madge, no?

A sweater-girl sweater ramps up the voltage of any outfit, just like a great-fitting top works for a man. Vintage apparel does this SO much better than moderns things – with class . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . ..
