TROLLING FOR TRUE VINTAGE FASHION IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF EVA PERON

So, here I go again tantalizing you with tales of remarkable discoveries.  Yesterday, Christmas Eve, found me scouting through a huge flea market in San Telmo barrio of Buenos Aires, de Argentina.  Like the one in Montevideo, so many luxury relics of wealthy families of the past.  Although the majority in this one is “hippie” style goods, leather, modern fur and artwork, the small selection of early mid-century treasures is excellent.

I bought, after regretfully acknowledging that I couldn’t buy everything I found, 3 handmade dresses from the 1940’s.  Such fun!  I’m sure that Evita would have approved.

Although it will be some time before Madge, Stella and Giselle can model them properly, I will attempt to photograph them all by mid-January.  Until then, we’re still watching finds from November.  Stay tuned  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Out and about in a new city, wonderful, historic and fun Buenos Aires, Argentina.  I encountered a little hole-in-the-wall shop owned by a delightful woman of the mid-century era who sells estate goods from that time.  Aside from general items such as old photographs, some furniture, bric-a-brac, etc. she also had some handbags, a couple of jackets, blouses (rare!) and gorgeous gowns, slips and robes as well as vintage textiles.  Some need TLC such as stain removal but they appeared to be in very good shape.

Her shop is located next to the artsy Caminito Street (Calle) location, on a corner at the intersection and across from the pizzeria.  Above the door is a sign saying SIGLO XX.

If you’re in the area, I suggest that you stop by.  Can’t wait to see what turns up next . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

FABULOUS FIND IN URUGUAY!!

file0001209214386-ebook-cover-111

Though travel adventures have been taking center stage recently, my spying eye never sleeps and yesterday spotted a true treasure trove!  A flea market in Montevideo, very much like the fleas in Paris, had many lovely estate items (glassware, antiques, china, silver, etc.) as well as beautiful jewelry, handbags and – finally – some clothing!  I picked up a great 1940’s at-home gown from France and saw a collection of gorgeous blouses, bed jackets and nightgowns of the early mid-century era.  I would have liked to buy it all!  Prices were very reasonable and the merchandise in excellent condition.

The vendor, Ana Rey, has a store and Facebook page, directions below:
